The Mystery of the Black on Black 87 TC

Okay, I need a bit of help here.

From what I understand, there was no black on black leather Turbocoupe for 87 or 88.

A few years ago when I was looking for a TC, I came across one advertised online. It was black, with jet black leather interior. The door inserts were black also. Even the dash trim, etc looked 'blacker' than the charcoal I have.

I only thought of this again because I was poring through an old backup of my system and found the text of the ad. The website it was being advertised on is long gone, along with the pictures. But I swear that thing was black on black leather, and that's what the ad blurb I have left says.

Knowing how expensive it is to put in a custom leather interior.. is there any logical explanation to this, or did this guy just spend $$$$$$$$ to go black?

Never understood out of all the colour combos why Ford didn't offer black on black. This car I saw it in was just gorgeous with it.

I'm interested in this because on the very off chance there ever were such a colour option available, that is how I'd like to do my own. I like the black exterior but I'm not enamoured of the charcoal and grey interior. Before I saw that black one, I had been searching for a blue on blue leather like my Dads, because it was all solid colours.

It's gotta be just a custom job right?

I'm pretty sure I remember the car you are talking about, and I think the owner swapped in the interior from a mustang. The seats looked to sit a bit high in the pictures that I saw so I asked him why they looked that way. I'm almost positive he said it was a swap from a stang. So the elusive black on black was most likely a custom job by the owner.

It was the back seats that confused me.. did the stang have basically the same design for the rear? These looked identical to turbocoupe rear seats.. just black instead of whatever other colour

The Raven/Charcoal interior of an '87 Turbo Coupe looks nearly black to me.
If someone were to re-dye the center of the seats & door panel inserts on a leather interior car to match the rest of the color of the doors & dash, it would sure look like a black interior to me.

That could be. Maybe the camera darkened things. This looked pretty close to jet black to me. But that's definitely a good thought.

I agree, under some lighting conditions it will look darker than others. In the picture I posted, you can see that it is more dark than it would be in person. The lighter gray areas of the center of the seats are definitely darker than in person.
