My new CHEAP manual boost control valve

So I came across this on ebay and since the hose keeps blowing off the turbo, I figured I'd give it a try. Besides, it was about $10 including shipping.
First off, it doesn't operate like a gillis, this one is supposed to bleed off pressure to keep the wastegate closed and it recommends "professional installation" because it doesn't have instructions. Ive taken it apart and if it doesn't work good enough the way it is, it can be converted to the same setup as a gillis.

Ok, so my review is that the CHEAP boost controller does work. It gives you some adjustability but right now feels like it is at the end of adjustment and it has my boost at a max of 14.5psi. As soon as I can I'm going to convert it to the same setup as a gillis.

The bleed type valves give slower boost response than the pressure relief valves.

Yea I've seen that, but for the price and the fact the the reference hose kept blowing off I figured I'd give it a try. For now I don't have to worry about over boosting the engine and it won't be hard to convert to a gillis style boost valve.

What does the inside look like? From the photo, I don't see how it would be possible to convert to a ball & spring style valve. :dunno:

I have a spring that I'm going to use, the T piece has a ball bearing in it. The bottom nipple on the main piece will be blocked and a new hole will be drilled and tapped on the bottom. The adjusting screw will be shortened to let the air get to the top nipple. When I do it I will take pictures so anyone that would want to do the same will know what they are getting into.

I have that same controller on my car. I thought the T piece was some kind of one way check valve, so I tossed it. It's been on the car for 2 years now and works well. Boost comes up quick and and it holds the setting perfectly. It is a bit "coarse" on the adjustment though. On mine, one click is a 2 psi change in boost.
I will go to an EBC one of these days, but for now this one does the job.

Yea the t piece has a check valve in it and restricts flow, so mine is about 2 psi per full turn.

I will say, I have run both styles of valves. The difference in the way the boost comes on with the gillis has a opposed to the bleeder valve is night and day. The bleeder valve is just slow. I was honestly shocked the first time the boost kicked on with the gillis. I was mad at myself for not getting one sooner! If you can switch it, I would, or spend the money on the real deal. Its cheap and worth ever penny. Even on a stock car. I have no affiliation with Gillis or axe to grind with bleeder valves. Just speaking from experience. If the hose is blowing off, try small hose clamps or a couple small zip ties.
