Hey guys...

I've been taking a break from the TC scene for a few days...

Sunday, I replaced all of the Lash Adjusters with brand new onew from NAPA ($4.98 ea X 8). The new ones look better than stock. And I cleaned out the oil passages with pipe cleaners too.

I also sprung for a new rubber FelPro Valve Cover Gasket...looks great !

Got everything back together and fired it up. NO MORE VALVE TRAIN NOISE !!!!!

Great, I thought, now I can get back to driving my TC !!!

So, next the test drive. Everything seemed fine until I got on it. As soon as I hit 12 pounds of boost it shuttered and hesitated. I tried again...same thing. Funny part is that at exactly 12 pounds of boost (in all gears)...it does the same exact thing.

My first thought was that I folded the hose between the Turbo and IC in on itself. Nope, not that...

As I was checking, I noticed that I was slinging oil in a circle radiating around my Cam Sprocket. Further checking showed that I didn't get the new valve cover gasket seated correctly under the front of the Valve Cover. Well, not wanting to take the whole F**King thing apart again, I tried to loosen the Valve Cover and gently pull the gasket out in the front. Mistake here ! Damn if I didn't rip the brand new F**King gasket apart. There's a quick $20.00, not to mention having to take the F**King thing apart AGAIN !!!!!

At that point, I had to just walk away from it (plus my boys were learning how Sailor's talk LOL !).

OK, well I can fix the Valve Cover Gasket...but WTF is causing my bucking at 12 pounds of boost ? I plan on checking the turbo to IC hose again to see if I have dm22's problem (a slit or crack) ???? What is really strange is that it always happens at the same point of boost (regardless of what the rpm's are at that point...).

Any other ideas before I consider Insurance Fraud and total the SOB ?

Welcome back, Dan! Inspect ALL hoses that see boost press to see if any are cracked, disconnected, or leaking. Check the PCV valve and PCV hoses, and all hoses that come off the vac tree, like the hose to the EGR solenoid, etc. Last spring, I blew a hole the size of a thick pencil in my IC to TB hose, and the most boost I could get out of it was 5 psi, instead of the usual 19-20 I have my boost valve set at.

Well, yea I guess try to check that turbo to IC hose because on mine is limited the boost at exactly 7 psi.

If that doesn't work, hook a vacuum pump onto the boost control solenoid vac lines and check to see if they hold vacuum for at least 30 seconds. Maybe your BCS is bad??

Hey Dan, Welcome back. Well it seems as if the original problem you were having was your Lash Adjusters and you have corrected that. By the way that is a bummer about the gasket. I know how you feel, it is not the 20 bucks that pisses you off, it is taking the dam thing apart again that stinks. As far as your boost situation I like yourself wonder why @ 12 pounds every time???? That is strange, I also would think it is some type of hose problem but if a hose is cracked or bent or not tight would it fail @ 12 psi every time regardless of your RPMs? Well common sense would say start with the hose's and I hope that is all it is. For the record I know exactly how you feel, every dam time I get to the bottom of one thing something else starts F-in with me. I guess it is the nature of the beast Dan!

PS: By the way Dan, I also keep a little fella like your F**KING around just in case I get pissed off! HMMM, all of a sudden I have a craving for some chinese take out,LOL. Good luck Dan,keep us posted.

Roy.
