Ok, so i fixed the fuel level sender in my 86 TC. i purchased a fuel pump assembly from rockauto for the small sum of $9, plus shipping, and removed the level sender from it. [EDIT:] The fuel pump assembly i bought was for a 1989 mercury Topaz, the cheapest reman unit on rock auto is currently $21 bux. i removed the tank from my 88, and removed the sender from the hanger. i had to drill 2 small 9/64ths holes in the factory TC hanger, then attach the new level transmitter to it. then i modified the ground to attach to the end of the hanger tube, and wired up the lead to the factory black wire. i plugged it in to the harness and checked for proper operation. it read a little high, but that may be because it wasn't grounded well. i installed it into the tank and reassembled the car. i measured the fuel level in the tank before i put it back on, right at 1/8ths, and the gauge reads spot on 1/8ths. i haven't filled it up yet to see how it works over the course of a tanks use, but at least i have a general idea how much fuel is in there.
