Post: TC as a first car?

My sister wants to buy my '88 TC as her first car. I think it'd be a good choice, I've kept it in great shape so I know it's mechanically sound (can't say that for other used cars that she could affor...

Post: RE: 1st Impressions on 2nd 88 TC

If that sunshade is the same as what the '90 Sable I had, Ford in their infinite wisdom coated it with a velour type of material held in place with a water-soluble adhesive. If any rain hits it, it'll...

Post: RE: Looks like a battle in my future!!!

Ask to speak with an adjuster who's not a complete jackass. Also, find some classifieds online where people are asking $2000+ for TCs (shouldn't be hard to find). My TC got rear ended a couple years...

Post: RE: My 87 TC is dead, thinking about parting out.

I owned a '93 Cougar with the 3.8, which I sold when it popped a head gasket at 65k miles. I maintained it rigorously because I knew about the problem, didn't make any difference. There are improved h...

Post: RE: Towing with a TC!!!

A little over a year ago, my TC hauled me, my dog, computer, clothes, stereo, disassembled furniture, a few cases of beer, and anything else I could possibly fit in it from Maryland to Florida. The re...

1)What is best for treating the rubber molding and such? A good rubber/vinyl protectant. I've heard very bad things about Armorall and comparable products, apparently they can leech oils out and act...

I don't remember off hand, but it's easy to find out. Take off the rear cover, and the circuit board is labeled where the power connector is mounted to it. I don't remember if all 3 pins were labeled ...
Thread: Average MPG for an 87 TC?
Post: RE: Average MPG for an 87 TC?

My TC gets 16.2 mpg in town, 27.5 on the highway at 75 mph or so. The Mark (DOHC 4.6 V8) gets 15.8 city / around 26 highway. It'd be nice to see what 20 mpg in town is like, but all the 50 mph road...

I got a Mark VIII not too long ago, which relegated my TC to occasional car status. I thought of getting rid of the it since I hardly drive it now, but it's just too cool of a car to get rid of. An...

It could also very well be a clogged catalytic converter. Has it been replaced anytime recently?

Wow.. Does it have the low-compression 2.3t engine too? That thing must be PAINFULLY slow. I'd worry about things like pulling out into traffic or merging on the highway, especially with the gas tank ...

I know one was available, my 88's owner's manual shows the mounting points and says that a kit can be purchased from the dealer. I don't know if they are still around. It's possible that a Mark VII's ...

When I broke off a pin, I tried to get a machine shop to drill it out. They wouldn't due to liability issues since if they drilled the hole oversize or oblong, it could cause the pins to jam. Which th...

Yeah, I think I'll keep it. If I sold it I might get like $2000 at the very most. I'd get a lot more enjoyment out of the TC than that little bit of cash. 1200 lbs is a pretty beefy! I was reading ...

A fairly common cruise problem on Fords is the vacuum dump valve coming loose. It is under the dash near the brake pedal arm. Looks like a button with a vacuum line attached. The pedal arm has a flang...

Whenever that happens with mine, it's the TPS. Tromping the pedal to the floor about 20 times in a row (with the engine off of course) seems to un-stick it for a few weeks.

A few months ago I got a '93 Mark VIII. The plan was to keep the TC around until the Mark proved itself to be dependable. Well it has, so I haven't been driving the TC much at all. But when my old T...

Post: RE: pros/cons of egr removal?

My EGR valve was stuck shut, so for all intents and purposes it was removed. When I fixed it, my gas mileage went up by 1.5 mpg city/2.5 hwy, and the part-throttle pinging I had went away. It closes...
