I havent actually had a chance to check and i'm at work right now, but for when I get a chance to get started on replacing it...where is the starter located under the engine...which side? My car still acts as thought the clutch isnt pushed in when i try to start it, and I replaced the starter solenoid. I'm thinking it has to be the starter.

Oh BTW...its an 88 Turbocoupe

What do you mean? Does it do nothing, does it try to turn but jerk like it's in gear? If it is completely dead there are a couple of other possiblities before buying a starter.

Bell housing, passenger side up above the black bar that connects to both sides of the frame. Make sure the wire is connected properly before replacing it. It could have just come loose or something if you've tried everything else (I remember reading your last post).

It makes it a lot easier getting back in with helping hands, its an absolute bitch if you have the stock, really short wire on there.

Well...By me saying it does nothing...it does absolutely not one damn thing. No turning over, no click....nothing. The solenoid is good since I just replaced it. The only other thing I can think of is to bypass the neutral safety switch. If you want to read my other post, its at the very bottom of the main general page or at the top of page 2. Thanks guys [Image: smile.gif]

I would pull the starter out and have it bench tested. Also check the wire going to the starter. That way if the starter is dead, there is your problem. If not, your still left with a headache [Image: frown.gif] I had a problem where when I went to start the car a poof of smoke and a spark came off the negative terminal of the car. It wound up to be the loose negative terminal, not too loose to raise suspicion but not tight enough. Good luck getting her started. [Image: smile.gif]
EDIT: I would also run the codes, the NSS might throw a code, but im not sure if it would, just my .02

Well this morning I was going to have it towed to a friends shop so I could use the lift to get under it and inspect things. I went to push it down my driveway (about 50-60 ft long, 40* downward angle) and I popped the clutch in reverse and it started right up...and ran great when I took it around the block. I brought it home and turned it off to see if it would start , and nope...oops. The tow truck showed up about 20 seconds later and hauled her off to the shop, where I will be all night tomorrow getting the starter changed out. I wish I would have just driven it there when i had it running...would have saved me $45 [Image: frown.gif]

With a lift, you should be able to change the starter in about 20 minutes. The hardest part will be getting the big bar that runs from side to side off. The bolts on the big bar on my car hadn't been off since 1988, and they were really stuck on there. It took a 5 foot breaker bar to get them loose, but maybe you'll have more luck. Either way, get a new starter and put it on. Even if the starter isn't the problem, chances are it's 16 years old and a new one wouldn't hurt. Also, just a tip, but be sure to clean the mating surface of the bell housing where the starter bolts up. This area is the ground point for the circuit to flow electricity (hence, the one wire starter configuration), and a dirty ground will cause the starter to not work. I know this from experience. Again, good luck to ya.
