Ok this is very strange. My auto trany in my 87 TC with 130,000 miles, is acting up, Ok it all start friday, I went to the bank when I came out, i put it in reverse and nothing, I checked the fluid level and it was a half a quart low, i checked a week earlier and it was fine; I had to shut the engine off and put it in nutruel and push it backwards and start it up and put it in drive. Then I got home, (now heres the strange part) i put it in nutrual and it moved the car forward, then I put it in park and sat there for a minute wondering why it did this, then I taped the gas and the car moved with it in park!!! I have never heard of a trany do this, and my dad has no clue. i know i cant fix it myself i dont have the money.

I have a 87 TC with 130,000 miles so far all ive done is drop it 1 1/4 in in front and i havnt got the 1 in lowering springs in the rear yet, and put in a system. future plans are to do some body work and 17 in whells, ground effects( dont know where to get them yet) and enginge upgrades.

Check to make sure the linkage has not slipped. Sounds to me like the detents in the shifter are no longer lined up with where the transmission expect them to be.

my $0.02...

Could be broken parking pawl. A4ld is prone to pulling threads out of case or worse breaking the case.Had the same thing happen to mine.New case will cost about $150 and then you still have to swap guts from your trans= more cash. JUNK THE A4LD and put in the 5 speed for about $500-$600

Hi.

I had that same problem with my 88. My tranny fluid was a little low and my dad filled it up. That same day I was driving it delivering pizzas and it went out. COMPLETELY. So, I'd say, don't drive far from your house w/o a cell phone or something, because it *might* go out.

Mine had 130k on it too. Mine did not do anything with it in park though.

I have a similar prob: it seems the detent and linkage are not lined up right. My indicator is 1/2 between N & OD when the tranny is really in OD.

What is the correct way to line up the linkage so that the detents wotk properly?

Knowing enough about, and rebuilding enough of these junks, I'll bet the forward clutches got hot and welded themselves together, leaving the car stuck in drive. How do you say, overhaul time.

Good luck
