I woke up this morning with 2 gallons of water in my spare tire slot and the carpet soaked. Theres some cardboard type material thats glued to the trunk itself all that is warped and has been water rot had to scrape all that up. Question is now what. The carpet itself could be spared but since theres some good rust spots and and smells of mildew better if I can find a whole new kit was curious if anyone knew where I could find a trunk carpet kit off hand. Not sure how the waters getting in there, the seal around the trunk is in good condition, and in the winter alot of moisture builds up in there and condensates. Been a pain since I've owned this car.

I have everything you need from a wrecked '87 bird in great shape, including the weather stripping that is still in perfect shape. Shoot me an offer.

I find it hard to believe it's just 2 gallons of condensate. Have you tried lerking in the trunk with a flashlight while someone sprays water from the outside?
Also you can try drilling a hole or two in the bottom of the spare tire well.

No it was dry up until are last rain which has been constant over the past few days. Ive heard water sloching in the trunk for a few days now thought it was just my gas tank. Then my wife went in there this morning to find her keys and felt underneath the rear seat was wet, it ran through the trunk into the car.

Sounds to me like the rear window may be leaking or the seams where the qtr panel & rear deck meet. They usually use seam sealer on the joints & they have a tendency to dry up over the years. You can remove the old seam sealer, clean them up & re-seal them. As for the rear window, in order to do it right, you should remove the rear window & re-seal it or get a new rubber seal if its a late 88. Like Pete said, you need to get into the trunk with a light & have some hose down the car like its in a hurricane.
If you look under the car behind the wheels you should see drains that get rusted or clogged over time. These drain are also along the rocker as well to drain any water that may flow down into it. You should be able to take a thin flate blade screwdriver & open/Clean them out. Also in the spare tire area there is a rubber plug that you can pop to let all the water out.

yea I think I have a leaking back window myself. as in heavy rain storms the pagganer side of the back seat gets wet. Ive tried finding it but on my window there is a black rubber piece all the way around that covers the lip can that be removed? sprry to steal the thread.

Went outside last night while it was raining to find its leaking from the taillight assembly and trickling through the holes on the drivers side down to the spare tire area. Another bad thing is when i went to lock the door to go inside i pushed the damn door lock button and it pushed through and broke. Guess I dont know my own strenght cause i didnt push it that hard.
