Eh, this can be argued all day long, but if any of you are in doubt you're welcome to come for a ride in my car! I stand by a mid-150 MPH top end.

I'll bring back up walsteds link:

http://users3.ev1.net/~walsted/speedrpm.html

5500rpm with 3.55's and 255/60/16's = 155.6mph.

With the small coefficent of drag these cars I believe 140+ is achievable..but that will be the only time I ever have my car above 120mph intentionally considering it's a felony in most states to be that much above the speed limit; and the car was very receptive to even the slightest crosswinds...

I've ragged mine out in 5th gear a couple times. In GA and FL you don't even go to jail. The "magic" number is 30 over here, but they will NOT pin you with reckless driving and haul you away unless you are weaving through traffic and such. If its a clear road ahead and you're just speeding, they'll give you one hell of a ticket but you won't get arrested! My uncle is a Lieutenant here in Panama City and my step father was a Sheriff for 14 years in GA.

From what I've been told, they're not even allowed to chase you unless you're DUI or you just robbed a bank, etc. I've flown right past a cop on the side of the road before in excess of 120 with a few cars right next to me doing the same speeds, all the cop did was flick his blue lights on (camera, video proof?). Nobody was chased and nobody got tickets in the mail. No state troopers showed up at anybody's door.

I'm not telling anyone to go out and break the law here, I'm just stating that I have before and what the reprocussions are if you live around the areas that I have.

That being said, be safe and don't go in excess of the speed limit or they'll send the SWAT team after you and you'll die. The end.

Well that's a pretty cool speed calculator, but it stops at 6250. Need some more rpms before we start talking fast. Personally I've never had my car up over 130mph, but I'd really like to get the tc I'm building now close to the 180+ mph range. I'll send some pics of my "other" turbo coupe one of these days. Just out of curiousity has anyone ever ran in, or considered running in the Silver State Classic? Open road and high speed sounds pretty cool.

Using standard gearing and the manual trans rear ends, a straight calculation with new tires results in;

year 5500 6000 6500
'86 150.07 163.71 177.35
'87/'88 155.37 169.49 183.62

Strictly mathmatical.

I went for a ride in a A4ld car, all bone stock, not even a k&n and comparing it to a corvette we were beside it was doing 126mph. the spedo is 180kph which i think is 111mph so that was no help, but the vettes spedo said 126 apparently, so we should give the A4LD's some credit

I swear that back in 83-84 they said somehting like 149mph. Atleast that is what I remember. I do know that a T-bird still holds the record at talledega and at daytona for top speed. I believe that is was in 86. Somthing like 213-216mph. Granted that is a V8 cup car but that still says something about our cars.
84 T/c, 88 intake,I/C, injectors, hood, PC1 ecu, E6 manifold, Brown Tops, K$N open element, BPV. Way pay to run 8 cylinders when 4 plus a turbo will get you there quicker.

Weird. I know I have buried the 140mph speedo in my GT. Has an 87 TC tranny , 4.10's and 28 inch tall drag radials. I woudl say 143 is way off. I was still in 4rth when I hit 140. Shifted to 5th and buried it some more.

(This was not from a dig , and not next to a 10 second car , and I did not win, because I was not racing at 2 in the morning)
