when the rpms reach around 4500 the turbo actually slows down the car. What's going on? It's a 1986 that I bought recently. As far as I know it's never been modified.

1. Any unusual noises?
2. Does the car run better with the gas pedal 90% to the floor than at 100% to the floor?
3. take off the compressor inlet tube and check the turbo shaft for side and end play. Do the blades hit the housing in any way?

Check fuel pressure under WOT / boost to be sure it is climbing 1:1 with boost.

Thanks everyone.
It definitely runs better not floored. I haven't heard any strange noises from the turbo, but there is a valve tap, which is pretty noisy. I'll check the tube and fuel pressure.
