If you're trying to get the chrome finish like Dan E. be prepared to spend an average of 15 hours PER rim. That's about what it took Dan to get his to that level unless you have an actual wheel buffing machine. Dan used 4 or 5 grit levels of sandpaper then 2 or 3 levels of polishing compound.
Good luck.
FWIW... there are shops that can refinish or chrome your rims, runs about $125 +/- per wheel, however you can buy new aftermarket wheels for that price.

I realy dont want them mirror but just more blinging that they are normaly. I want to paint the holes and then shine the rest.I dont have near as much time to do that. And ther eis no where i have ever seen that has the rims that i like or want. i want normal 10 hole American racing rims or draglites.

When I bought my '87 TC, the previous owner had already mirro polished the snowflakes and center caps (he owned a detail shop). I didn't realize what added value I had until I read this! Awesome!

What if you put the rear of the car on jackstands and put the car in drive or 1st, took the wheel weights off and marked their placement on the tires, used chicken wire to hold the valve stem back a little bit, and then sand the wheels one at a time while they are spinning using progressively finer grit then polish!!! Sounds good in theory!! this way you wont mess up the paint on the inside of the holes in the wheels!! Good idea or bad??? I dunno, Im tired, I work too much and I try to do things the easiest way possible so I am always thinking!!!

Here's a nice alternative for you. Just do what he says, minus the painting step, if you just want to refinish them. [Image: smile.gif]
But be careful, for heavens sake.

be sure to use a sanding block, because if your fingers go into a hole in the wheel...ouch
