Very cool! I don't know if I'll get a chance to see you in action, but I'll be following your story here.

I don't want people to come see me in action(I'm not that good), I want people to get there TC's out on track with me! Maybe come and watch if yours isn't ready for the track yet but your thinking about getting out there. We might be the slowest cars out there (I don't think we will be really)but I guarantee all of us will have a smile on our faces.

I found this you tube video today. Its a guy in His 280z going around Summit Point in Aug of 2010. We were running with NASA in HPDE 1. This was the last time I was on track. I'm in the 84 SVO. Keep an eye out at about 1:30 into the video. I just passed the Red S2000 and then got this guy. This driver has a good line around Summit so its good to watch to learn the track if you haven't been there. Keep in mind my SVO is almost stock, only running 12psi of boost and a Stinger front mount IC with a 3" exhaust.

Are you planning on running any kind of spoiler in the rear? If so, I would stay away from sticking NACA ducts in the rear window.

Yes, I'm planning on going NASCAR style with a 3"
or 4" tall spoiler at about a 45 degree angle on the trunk lid. Quick, easy, and effective. I really do think I'm going to do large NACA ducts in the quarters so there will be nothing in the rear window.

Why would you say not to put NACA ducts in the rear window if I'm running a spoiler? Is that because it would take away air flow from the spoiler?

For the spoiler I'd recommend going about 65 to 70 degrees (WAY more downforce). You will probably not be going fast enough for aero drag to be an issue. As far as the rear window NACA's go, you his the nail on the head. All of the air that flows over the car stays attached on the rear window to where it will eventually hit the spoiler. To get maximum efficiency from your spoiler, you will want to keep that air attached. Any air you pull in for ducting will be taking air away from the spoiler. In any case, you will want the leading edge of the roof to be as smooth of a transition as possible without any kind of disruption. On superspeedway stuff where we are trying to keep air away from the spoiler, we do what we can to disrupt the air at the leading edge of the window because that is where we will have the maximum effect of getting air off of the car. Hopefully this helps you. I am not sure how crazy you want to get with this build, but I have a few body mods you could do to REALLY increase your rear downforce.'

Thanks so much for sharing your expertise. I will run it steeper. I just bought the body kit Dan was selling. It squares off the front bumper meaning the bottom of the bumper doesn't start to roll under the car at the bottom. This will make it easier to mount a front splitter. I'm going to use a 3" splitter I got from my friends NASA AIX Mustang. Then I was going to mount some of the rubber edging material to the side shirts in the kit to lower the sides of the car. At the rear of the car there is a lower bumper part of the body kit. I'm going to cut the middle of this out
and run a rear diffuser between the ends of the lower rear bumper part of the kit. I would have the diffuser cover the gas tank and wrap around the leading edge of the gas tank. So that's what I have planned so far. The car will be very purpose built / crazy. So any idea's you have I would love to here. In the SVO I was getting up 120mph to 125mph in a basically stock car. I'm thinking this car will be a lot faster. I'm hoping for 135mph to 140mph on the long straight at VIR. So those are the max speeds I would be going.

Are you going to be using the quarter panel ducts to cool the brakes also?

Yes, I was thinking about doing that. I don't think it would be a problem to steal a little air for those or maybe one NACA duct in the quarter windows. Here are some pics of something close to what I have in mind. This BMW also has a rear diffuser like the one I'm going to do.

This last pic has a car with ducts in the rear doors similar to what I'm going to do to the quarters panels.

I haven't yet come up with a clean way to install a proper diffuser without dumping the stock tank and going fuel cell- I'll be watching to see what you come up with!

And I wonder what type of waterpump config those trunk-mount radiator setups are running? Electric inline on a swirlpot working with the oem primary?

How far back does that AIX splitter extend beneath the nose (any pics)?

I can picture where you're heading with this build, and I dig it.

Thanks Man.

I'm going to run just a inline electric water pump. A Meziere Enterprises WP 336 S, Its 55 gph. I mocked up and then had a friend with a Tig weld up my water pump replacement. The only thing I'm going to have driven off the engine is the alternator.

The splitter is just a homemade piece. It go's all the way to the cross member. I was looking at it tonight I might have to remake my own. The Mustang nose is shorter. The T-bird nose is way more aero.

After I get the body kit I will see what I have to do.
