will a fuel pressure regulator from a 1986tc fit on a 1988tc and work well

Yes. All Ford FPRs for EEC IV up to 94 or so are identical.

I recently asked the guy at my local ford dealership for a fuel pressure regulator. He told me he needed to know my cars "tuning code" in order to give me the right one. He said I could find it on the door post. Has anyone ever heard of that before or am I dealing with a joker.

Eric, In some cases the "calibration" level (code) can make a difference in a particular part. The parts guy may just be asking to save having to ask for it later if it is needed information

Maybe that is what he said.(It was a couple of weeks ago) I have developed a good relationship with them and they sometimes like to fool with me for fun so I wasn't quite sure,I'd never heard of it before. Is this code on the door post and do I need it to order a FPR?

The calibration code is on the drivers side door post, down by the the door latch. It should not be needed for a FPR, but like Pete said, he might be asking for it just in case....

We know it isn't needed but he may not. They probably operate on the principle that anything emissions related may require calibration code info. Besides, it a test to see if yiou know where the code is [Image: biggrin.gif]
