Exhaust questions part 2

Hi guys,

So I spoke to the fellow who's a reputed 2.3L turbo mechanic. Here is what he is saying. If you think he's wrong/off here, let me know:

He's saying the existing downpipe on my car is 2.5" mandrel bent. He's removing the cat, splitting off to two 2.5" pipes/mufflers. He's going with magnaflow mufflers on both sides, and 2.5" tailpipes after those, up over the axle, etc.

Is he on the right track here? Would the existing downpipe be mandrel bent?

I'm not planning to go to a T3 anytime soon, and the mechanic here is saying that there's no point doing 3" downpipe at this stage because if I go to a T3 a new pipe will be needed anyway due to the T3 being located slightly differently.
(or so he says)

Not being mechanically competent yet, I don't know if he's on the right track and simply doing things differently than what you guys suggest, or if he's doing the *wrong* thing. Anyone want to offer advice on this? They haven't started work yet so there is still some time to pull them off this..

Is there a right or wrong answer to this one? Am I going to get any kind of performance gain out of this going his way?

thanks muchly!

I converted mine to 3" DP and yada yada when I had an IHI and it bolted right up. Later I converted to a T3 and after extremely minor modification of the flange holes, it bolted right up.

Other than that I like his plan.

Hey Pete..

Now I read in my other post that it would be good to have 3" pipe right up to the muffler? So I'd be telling this guy that I want 3" downpipe, 3" y-pipe (I think that's what it's called), and then 2.5" the rest of the way after the muffler?

If so I wonder if that requires him to get different mufflers...

Man I wish I was more intelligent with this stuff.

Relax, knowledge comes in time and it doesn't take long. Actually you can go to a Y pipe that is 3" inlet and dual 2.5" outlets and use 2.5" inlet mufflers. This will work well

I hear the magnaflows are pretty much straight through, but i like the dynomax ultra flo because you can see right through it. I know a lot of exhaust shops specialize in magnaflow products.
