Car will not idle

I took my TC today to get a inspection sticker. It ran fair, when I got back I decided to install the new motorcraft wires and cap/rotor. Now the damn thing won't idle. I've checked and double checked all my wires, hose conections and everything else I can think of.

I'm beginning to think this car should have stayed where I found it. It just keeps on fighting me every step of the way.

Tomarrow AM I'll barrow a friends scan tool and check the codes. I just would really like to be driving this car (I can't afford to put gas in my P/U anymore).

If it ran fine before I would tend to think it was something that happened during the tune up. You probably already checked these, but I would check your firing order (1-3-4-2), and also your intercooler hoses. Especially your bottom one, it tends to be hard to see if it is completely on. Also, if you have an ohm meter you may check the resistance on the wires, I've had bad ones right out of the box before. Might also check and make sure all vac hoses are on and not cracked. If nothing, I'd say check the codes and see if anything pops up.

I've got a code 14. I'm going to swap one of my other dist. into it, but still may need diagnostic procedures if that doesn't work.

I swapped the dist. and still no idle. I did notice that when I turn the dist. the fuel pump cycles on and off with KOEO. I'm assuming that there is a short in the TFI harness but not sure, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Not sure on this but by moving the dist, You may be firing it and its that signal that turns on the pump. Jeff could answer this cause I'm not sure.

That does sound right Pete, but still can't get car to stay running and no idle at all.
I'm going to check FP, but that should be good as fuel system is all new.

Russ, does it start and then die? Or not start at all?

Start and then die could very well be an air leak like when the VAM hose isn't well seated and clamped, on the boottom where you can't see it. Ask me how I know and why I have bald spots Big Grin

I found the problem. VAM hose was folded over. The simplest things can make these cars run like crap or not even run. Hopefully everyone that read this thread has learned something, I have.

Correct, Pete..... the vane in the dist must have and edge right near the PIP, and rotating the dist moves the PIP in/out of the vane. Every time the EEC gets a pip signal, it runs the pump for 2 sec.
