Buying a replacement engine

So I was browsing around Craigslist the other night and came across a ford 2.3l engine + tranny for sale for 300 bucks, 147xxx Km/s on both and in perfect working order.

Now i've been thinking of rebuilding my engine for a while and the transmission because it makes a horrible grinding noise all the time, so as I came across this I thought it would be perfect to buy the engine which isn't very expensive, and just completely rebuild it and throw it in my bird once it's finished.

I'm still finding out information about the engine, but I do know it's from a 1993, he says it will fit a ranger or mustang but I don't know yet exactly what kind of car/truck it came from, nor if it's an automatic or 5spd transmission..

I was wondering if the automatic or manual transmission will make a difference of maybe how the engine fits or performs, I will continue to use my tranny if the other guy's is automatic and just buy the engine for 250, and also wondering if this engine would fit my 87 Thunderbird TC comming from a 1993 car/truck or if there would be issues using this engine paired with my Thunderbird tranny?

Thanks in advance

Jeff

The 93 head is going to be different than your turbo head. It won't have the more heat resistant valves in it, it will be higher compression and it may not flow as well.

If the tranny is a manual from a 93 Mustang, it is the same as what is in your car now.

Not sure what differences there are in the block. There is no provision for the turbo oil return line fitting into the block

You can try these guys... http://usedautoparts.everdrive.com/Default.aspx
Comes with a 3 year warranty. I've never used them but it looks like a good deal.

It'd be easy to get an engine and tranny from somewhere else, but I live in Canada.. I don't really want to ship and have to deal with that so having this guy close is what catches my attention.

Pete
You said there's no fit for the oil return line in the block.. Meaning I can't use my turbo with the engine? If that's the case then nuts to it, i'll just buy his tranny.

I just found another engine..

It's off an 87 Mustang, has 40,000kms. A 5 spd tranny for sale as well..

Same deal as the 93 engine? No use for turbo? Does the tranny fit right in?

Thanks

There is ways around the no turbo oil return line thing. Even if the block can't be drilled, which it might, not sure, you could still route a return line to the oil pan instead. This is not an insurmountable issue.

Mmmm I see.. But i'd rather keep it as close to how it's "supposed" to be ran, just simple and easy.

I'm a bit more interested in the tranny now though, so i'd like to know if that 87 tranny will bolt right in as would the 93

Hey guys
I've been spending time at University and dreaming of driving my car again.. Left her at home

So i've made a ton of money working construction before comming to University so I'm all for an engine rebuild now, do it now and not have to for a long time.

Plenty of 2.3 engines out there from early-90's Mustangs, as Pete said before the head won't be the same as my Turbo head because it doesn't have higher heat resistant valves.. I was thinking though if i'm going to rebuild the engine anyways and throw new valves in it, would that make a difference anymore? Would the compression be okay for use with turbo and all that? I'm planning to buy a T3 for the rebuild

Also for the transmission, is the only thing I have to worry about fitting-wise is tranny+engine? Might there be tranny+car issues depending on the year of the tranny?

I hope you guys are ready because when I start this project there are going to be a lot more questions comming.. You guys are such great help
