The tires are probably worth the price by themselves unless they are ATs [Image: biggrin.gif]

Sounds like a deal, what model Firestone are they.
Firestones are good, It's the Explorer with the tire problem. I've personally seen an Explorer with a tread seperation rolled over in the median along the Interstate, It had Goodyear Wrangler RT/S tires on it!!!!
It's the vehicle, not the Firestones!

You're right, it is the truck and not the tires. Ford reccomends far too low a tire pressure in the tires and they overheat and separate. You would not believe how may customers we have at work who want us to ake the Firestones off of their brand new cars and put something else on just becasue of the name.

UH,what about the other oh,say,5 MILIION Explorers that never rolled over?By the way, how does a vehicle(any vehicle) MAKE the tires blow out?????????Let's see...a manufacturer recommending too low pressure?Yes.Overloading the vehicle and/or tires themselves?Yes.People who only check their tire pressure once every 9 months?Yes.People who drive big, heavy vehicles with high centers of gravity like they are their husbands Turbocoupe or Accord or something else more appropriately suited for high speed combined with fast manuvers(16 lane changes in a 1.5 mile stretch)?Yes.People who are otherwise occupied by important stuff like cell phones, kids, radio, newspaper, food or whatever when the tire does blow out it catches them COMEPLETELY off guard and they freak and do exactly what their NOT supposed to do in such a case like jam on the brakes or jerk the wheel?Yes.The trucks fault? You have got to be KIDDING ME.No.Those tires were COMPLETELY missing one of their nylon caps under the steel belts in the tread.I don't know if they did it to save money or save time in order to be able to keep up with Explorer production,so they didn't have to go to Ford and tell them they couldn't keep up their end of the deal or what, but those tires were found to be FLAWED BY DESIGN.That's like blaming your car fire on Ford when you knew you had a fuel leak all summer long,it just doesn't make sense.(My $.02)

Too much fun, what's that mean? That's like too much boost, there's no such thing.

Okay, Explain why the same EXACT tir put on the Ranger never had the tread seperation problem???
Why do Ford EXPLORERS still to this day continue to have tread seperation / rollover accidents???
Many valid points were made in the previous post as to why these kind of things happen, but none of those can prove beyond a doubt that ONLY FIRESTONE tires have a defect. As stated earlier, Other brands of tires are having the same problems on FORD EXPLORERS.

NO ranger ever had a tire with a tread sep huh?Better check your stats, and why is it that explorers are having more problems than all the rest, even with other kinds of tires on them?Back to square one,too many conformist payment makers whining that their 4 wheel drive doesn't ride like a lincoln,so Ford(mistakenly)tells them "drop your p.s.i. to 26#'s.Now it rides nice and cushy, but there's a problem, that is way under inflated for a tire that size with that much weight on it,the other factor is their are about 15 times as many explorers on the road as the 3 next popular vehicles including rangers. So tell me........what exactly are these big,bad explorers doing to eat up these tires??????????????????

Yeah, and if the Firestones are such good tires, why is it that Explorers with Goodyear tires don't have tread separations any more than the usual amount? In other words, it's pretty much inevitable that a tread separation will happen, regardless of the vehicle or tire. Explorers with Firestone tires had WAY more tread separations than average; when they had Goodyears this was not the case.
As a side note, did anyone else see the Ritz cracker commercial from about 6 months ago? It showed a cartoon SUV that looked very much like an Explorer, and was driving around with Ritz crackers for tires. Then one of the crackers had a "tread separation", and the voiceover said something asinine about always carrying a spare.
Considering 100+ people DIED from tread separations, I thought that was in extremely poor taste. I'm waiting to have them come out with a commercial featuring two WTC-like stacks of crackers that get blown up by airplanes.. [Image: rolleyes.gif]
