Go here: http://catalog.mahleclevite.com/bearing/ and look at all the pix. Hell print them out and take them when you go look at the torn down motor. (use glossy paper)

Next time you rebuild it be there when the bearings are checked (plastigage) for proper clearances.

My guess is the follower is off the intake valve. Or the cam lobe is wiped.

Evintho, You have been around long enough to "guess" that having the belt off is what caused your problem. I am suggesting your cam timing is off. btdt bob
