I'm putting an 87-88 hood on the XR7. I have an 88 intercooler and will be adapting it as soon as I get the hood on. This car will be a daily driver. Would an IHI be a better alternative for an automatic daily driver because of the quicker spool up?

Dick, I'm going to say a conditional Yes. The conditions being that I never drove any automatic TC and the other conditions being you do the K&N, boost valve and the DP, oversized exhaust system. All these help whether you have a T3 or an IHI but it does make the IHI very responsive as a daily driver. The other thing is the IHI is only good for around 240-250 HP at the crank, max.

Thanks Pete. That is more than adequate horsepower for how I intend to use this car. I'm anxious to see if anyone else has an opinion.

with the right parts, you can have the T3 spooling pretty darn quickly. If you add a boost valve and a 3" DP you can get full boost by 2.5k-3k rpm. I have an automatic with a T3 and I have no problem with the spool up time in mine. I get 10psi by 2.5k and 15 psi at a little over 3k and that's without the boost valve.

i say keep the T3 and just get a boost valve and exhaust and you'll be happy. [Image: biggrin.gif]

Thanks for all the advice. Before I make any major changes, I plan to drive the car a while and see how it serves my needs.
