Is it work the effort to swap the IHI for a T3 on an 87/88 TC? If/When I get an 87/88, I'm considering that swap if I come up with a T3.

do some searching theres plenty here and at turboford.org. a larger turbo is alway better thats why people upgrade to them. if you dont raise the boost past 15-18 psi then id say the IHI is fine the t3 is good to about 20-22. but boost from a t3 at 18 psi is different then the boost at 18 psi on the IHI.

The stock IHI runs out of steam at around 4,500 RPM. The stock cam drops off around 5,200 RPM. On a stock '87/'88 TC motor, your powershifting point should be somewhere around 5,000 RPM.

When you make the IHI boost past 4,500 RPM, you're not making much more power, and you can feel the torque die off. I almost never go past 5,500 RPM with my car, not because I'm scared but because with the stock cam and turbo, its pretty much pointless...

I like my IHI. It's good for the quick spool up and in-town driving, which I do alot, I don't go out of the city much at all.

i dont have that problem my IHI pulls strong to about 5000. ive never went higher then that in the rpm range on my car.

You also have 3.73 gears out back. I mainly felt this with the 3.55s in my last car, but I can still feel it in my current one.

You guys talk about how the IHI is fine, im guessing you havnt driven a car with an IHI, then a larger turbo huh?

My IHI took a dump, swapped a larger turbo on, has a .63 housing, and i actually picked up bottom end torque off of boost compaired to the IHI, and power under boost is incredible compaired to the IHI

the IHI is barely sufficient for a 2.3L
