Would it work and how much work would it take?

Okay, my driver's seat brackets are broken all to hell (I'm talking about metal cracked IN HALF), and now that I'm without job, I need to fix it the cheapest way possible, I was thinking about swapping the passenger seat for the driver's seat.. Would it work? How much work would it be?? I figured I'd have to remove all the brackets and redo everything.. Anyone know if this is plausible/possible?

sorry to hear of your plight....an idea may be to get some metal and use it as a brace....in other words extend a piece over the break and screw or bolt it to both sides of the damaged rail.

Sorry i do not know if driver and passenger tracks will interchange. You may even want to call a yard maybe they will give you one for cheap

Seat tracks wont interchange (due to the seatbelt mounting), but I think the seats will, but the power lumbar switch will be on the wrong side if that matters to you. The seats are bolted to the tracks with only 4 bolts.... fairly easy to liberate the seats from the track assy.

As for fixing the seats, do what mjbird says, or take the stripped down seat to a welder, and have braces welded on.... shouldnt cost too much.

Swapping seats is ok, but it will annoy you in the long run. I have Ford Probe seats in my Austin (which is right-hand drive) so the driver's seat is on the right. And the tilt control ends up on your left which is next to the tunnel. But if you don't adjust it often don't wory about it. Could you rig the seat belt bracket up on the other side (safely).

FYI - I got these seats for 25 a pop at the junkyard. They are in like new condition. May be cheaper to score another driver's seat.

I would do the use some metal as a bracket idea, but the metal is SO rusty and just in horrible shape, that I don't think it would work.. I'll have to figure something out.. *sigh*
