Post on turbo ford by J.D. Laramee.
---------------------------------------------

THERES IS A 2.3 ROUND PORT RANGER HEAD. WHEN I GAVE THE HIGH FLOW NUMBERS ON THE TRICK FLOW POST. THIS IS WHAT I WAS USING. PORTED THEY WILL OUTFLOW THE OVAL AND D-PORTS EASILY. BUT ARE ALOT OF WORK.,J.D.

---------------------------------------------

The problems with the combustion chamber are easily dealt with, It doesnt take much grinding to make that chamber the same ccs as the turbo head, plus you will have less shrouding of the valves when you are done cutting. If you plan on porting the head it looks like it would work very well, the only other problem is the end ports on your intake are wa too big to match up with this head, but there are ways around that. For whatever it may or may not be worth, a head has two different part numbers - the casting is one, and the finished (i.e. machined) head is another. RF.....means "rough finish." In other words, that is the part number for the casting. You may find the finished part number engraved into the head somewhere. It will have four charaters (alpha-numeric), then the numbers "6049," then two letters. The casting will be RF____ 6C064 __."

Since I have talked with JD alot about his porting of the open cahmber ranger head I can tell you this about it. They were only made from 1983-1985. They were put on 2.0's and 2.3's. if it is a 2.0 head, it's junk and can't be ported worth a damn. The 2.3 head that he ports is his own porting that so far has only gotten close by his old competator that now works for him. Combining both their skill and ideas, they have a 2.3 head that out flows it all. He charges (last I knew) $2100 for a complete ranger round port setup and port job. He has LOTS of orders for these things and they are getting harder and harder to come by. Also, they were never made with an efi intake so making it fit right might make it harder to use in our motors. But because he hogs it out so much... might be less of a problem making it work with our intakes.

And on another note, he has a 300hp n/a 2.3 in a pinto running 10's or so

oh yeah, and another interesting thing.. I get turbo heads from work that are what we call cores cheap... $75 complete and they are supposed to be guaranteed crack free. Email me if you need one.

Mabey he would be interested in buying a NOS one. Jonesy might be able to walk away with a few bucks to help pay for a ported head!
