The EVTM (Electrical and Vacuum Troubleshooting Manual is extremely handy for basic troubleshooting. It grouped in subsystems and although it does not contain every bit of every circuit. it's handy. The TCs are included in the manual where there are differences from the other models. If you could only have one manual for your year Tbird/Cougar this is the one I would go for.

Biffy B Wrote:...then the other is just larger white pages that fold out from dealerships. Is one of them better than the other? I was thinking the larger sheets would be more informative to actual wires.
25 or so years ago I went into the local library and found a Chilton manual with foldout pages like you describe (I think it was a Chilton, anyway). It was a reference book so I couldn’t take it out of the library...and I really wanted copies of those pages. So, over to the copy machine I went. This was years before a functional Internet, so this was my only real choice. I remember the library people got all worked up over photocopying copyrighted material, and I told them it was the only source I had. (It was kind of like the “Seinfeld” episode with the Library Cop.)

It is FAR better than Ford’s EVTM, which is good if that’s all you have. I believe you could probably find every circuit with these pages. They’re legal sized (8x14), and the richness of detail is just amazing.

The only complaints are 1) it uses the common X-Y system, with letters and numbers in rows and columns. Some of my pages were too big for the copier, so I lost those markings, but it’s not all that hard to figure it out. The other complaint is that ALL Thunderbirds are shown and mixed in, so for example digital dashboard schematic, 3.8 liter, etc. are on half of a page, and TC stuff is on the other. Again, it’s not all that hard to figure out.

If you can’t find any copies anywhere I’ll give a go to photocopying these...but be warned that they are worn and in some spots smudged and blurry, years of wear and the necessity to hurry with the copying process. Other that these minor issues I’ve been very happy with them over the years.

1987 Turbo Coupe w/T5OD, 8.8 axle, grey smoke; most options. Got it in 1991 with 41K miles: 3 turbos, 2 heater cores, 3 T5OD full rebuilds, 6 clutches, 1 head gasket, 2 Teves II ABS units, etc. later....

I have '88 TC diagrams on the server at my forum turboford.org. Here is the link to the thread in the FAQ forum:

http://forum.turboford.org/ubb/ultimateb...4;t=000312

Scroll down to my post dated 4/10/14 to the link titled "Wiring Diagrams 88 T-Bird Complete" for the .pdf files.

They are for the TurboCoupe but I would think the non engine diagrams should be the same.

Hope this helps,

Thanks!! I can't pull that up at work but I'll look at home.

I bought a paper copy of the big drawings on ebay. I couldn't resist.

Also, I I looked at my "troubleshooting manuals" (I have an F150 and a Mark VII) and they probably are easier to use than the schematics are, and I think everything you'd ever want to know about the schematics is in there.

Joe, I don't know why the link 'died' when I posted it. You could cut and paste it into your browser and it should work ok.

Thank you all for the info! I did go ahead and get the EVTM for $15, so I think I did pretty good to have a print out on hand. Though having it online is fantastic as well. Thanks for posting that Paul! Lets me keep a copy on my PC for reference too Smile
