Wiring question

Since the car is down I decided to do a few upgrades while I'm at it but I have a few questions, Im installing two auto meter gauges in an apillar pod and wanted to make sure it was ok to splice both power wires into one 14 gauge wire and run that single wire to the dimmer switch. Second, which wire is the power wire for the dimmer switch that I should splice into?

Also is it ok to have both fans running constantly, I have mine wired to an aftermarket fan controller and I also have a manual fan switch, When I turn the a/c on I have to have the fans running to keep the car cool and I'm not sure if that will cause any problems other than maybe weating down the motors quicker??? Should I run another switch and relay to run just the smaller fan when the a/c is on? Thanks

In the 88 EVTM there is a LB/R wire (circuit 19) coming out of the main light switch that is from the dimmer. It goes through fuse 13 in the fuse panel and on to the various instrument lights.

Both Fans don't necessarily run when the AC is on. The primary runs (passenger side fan) whenever the AC is on. The secondary (driver's side) only runs when the head pressure reaches a certain point.

If you are still running a stock output alternator, then haveing both fans run full time is going to be a real load on that thing, especially at idle and when running other things like the AC blower or headlights or both along with the fans. My suggestion would be to wire them such that the EEC system controls them and then wire in individual manual switches also and relays
Better yet you can accomplish the same thing by tapping into the IRCM wiring.

I sent you some info on how to do it through the IRCM wiring and also the old fashion way with aftermarket relays. The IRCM way incudes info on how to integrate lights that show when the fan(s) is in operation.

Easiest place to tap into the dimmer LB/R wire is at the small bulb that lights up the headlight switch. Takes 2 minutes to pull the panel and find the wire. No need to remove the headlight switch.

Too late, I did splice into the LBlu/R wire behind it though, thanks for the help Pete. We got the timing set and everything put back together but my battery was toast and started leaking so we had to use Ryans to start the car to set the timing. The endless money pit of doom seems to have started. Oh well, should have everything done and put together Monday.
