Windshield wipers (yes, I used "search")

Okay, here's the situation: The Twin has the wipers stuck in the up position, motor checks out fine, replaced ignition switch. So, it's either the wiper switch or the controller (which, BTW, have both been obsoleted by Ford). What are the switch outputs supposed to be? Can I bypass the controller and just live without the intermittent position for now?

Ed I had this same problem. I could be the switch but seeing how it has the intermittent wipers it is probly the wiper govenor. I had the same problem in my 84 T/c. The wipers would work no tintermittent and they wouldn't go all the way down. I got a govenor out of a yard and everything is back to normal. They go all the way down and the intermittent parts works again. Ford doesn't make that part any more that I know of. The govenor is inside the dash above the fuse box. Just follow the wires coming out of the wiper switfch on the colum. Besides if I remeber corectly the govenor plugs inline. Looks like you could just unplug the part and hook the factory plugs together.
84 T/c, 88 intake,I/C, injectors, hood, PC1 ecu, E6 manifold, Brown Tops, K$N open element, BPV. Way pay to run 8 cylinders when 4 plus a turbo will get you there quicker.

Ed - if by "stuck in the up position" you mean that they won't park, I had a similar situation that might help. When mine was new (man, that was a few years ago...) the wipers got stuck and would not park...I took it to the stealership and they tried to fix it on three separate occasions. Replaced the motor twice and the whole thing once (so they said)....The last time they "fixed" it, as I was driving off of the lot, trying them out, they got stuck again....I got frustrated at this point and decided to fix it myself. I tore the unit down and inside the base, I found a little stamped copper piece. This piece, if I remember correctly, bridges a couple or three contacts that make the wipers park. I polished this piece with 400 wet dry, applied a liberal amount of dielectric grease and re-assembled. The problem never came back.

I did this exact thing.

"stuck in the up position" means they are at the maximum extent of the wipe cycle. There is no response when using the wiper switch.

The wipers on both cars park just fine. Judging by the numerous posts on parking problems, they must be the only two cars that Ford built without the problem... Wink

What happens when you apply 12v directly from the battery to the motor? How about checking the continuity of the combination switch? The connection in the column is pretty easy to get to.

Sure, if there were only two spades, but there are 5 or 6, so I was hoping someone would have or know the circuit diagram...

I'll have to dig around some more to see if I have it.

Sorry to dig up an old post but have just started having a problem where the wipers still park, but they take about 5 seconds to do that. They stop at the bottom and appear to be stuck and not going to park, then after about 5 seconds, they finally park. This had just started and has happened the last few times. While the above comments seem to address the issue, I'm not sure if they are referring to the motor or the governor? Anyone have any pictures?

From what they are talking about, it seems that the motor itself can be disassembled and the contacts cleaned.

Ok thanks... I know when I got the car it had a problem with the wipers not going into the park position and I swapped the motor which fixed it. That was 15+ years ago... I'll look around and see if I still have that motor around or maybe I picked up another at some time. Just have too many parts and boxes to know what's what offhand. I guess that is a good reason to through and attempt to organize stuff!
