I just got 2 window regulators and now need to know how to replace the driver side (the only non-functioning one).
anyone ever done one, I heard something about drilling out the rivits and using 1/4-20's, but how do you remove it from the window and the door. any help or sugestions is needed

Is it just the motor that's gone bad? You don't have to replace the regulator if that's the case. You'll have to drill out the 3 rivets & re-install using 1/4 " bolts. Does the motor work at all? What usually goes bad is these 3 plastic pieces in the gear assy. If it makes noise but the window doesn't move, that's what's wrong. I've replaced a bunch throughout the years. Go to your local pick-a-Part and look for 4-door cars---the back doors don't get used alot. I don't remember what the years are, but some have a gear assy. that looks like there's springs across the top of it. These don't use the 3 plastic things and I've never had one of those go bad.

i had to fix son's window on a sunday, the teflon type 3 sided gear worn out, just removed the motor like they posted, i took 3 of those wall screw holders(teflon) or hard plastic(white ones)they have a round head on them, cut off the head and used them in the 3 corners, cleaned out the little broken plastics ,clean and regreased the worm gear, worked first time, still working smooth, low tech gt

hi guys
I just rebuilt the motors on my 86. Being kinda lazy i eyeballed where the bolts for the motor were and drilled access holes dont remember exact drill size but was just big enough to get an 8mm 1/4 drive socket on the heads.
