Mine didn't drop at any time, nor did the junkyard ones drop. I guess it may be a good idea to clean out the tracks, since the resistance may be what causes the motors to burn out in the first place.

My passenger window motor gears must have given up too - since I can hear the motor but the window stays up. Im trying to imagine drilling out rivets that run through a motor, and then replacing them with bolts. Sounds like that would tear up the motor mounts? Must be easier than it sounds - if it can be done in 30 minutes.

If the gears go bad (usual cause of failure) I also rebuild them with the "gear kit". However, I have had a few motors over the last 30 or so years in which the brushes wore out, or the commutator wore down, or armature has gone bad (open). Even had one where the shaft siezed in the bushing at the back end of the motor.
Just be sure the gears are the problem before buying a gear kit.

I had installed 2 NAPA rebuilds, neither one lasted a year, took it back and they were out of warranty. I bought 2 new motors for the same price that NAPA wanted for the rebuilds. I think I got them from Federated.
Also note that the window motors and wiring differ from my 86 to the 87-88 motors that I've seen. The wire plug is different. ALSO the right hand motor for my 86 is a left hand motor on other fords, Any body else notice this??

Yup, our cars are "reversed" from most other Fords. My daughters Topaz is the same as our Tbirds.

I have new issue... left side window didn't work, hit it with a voltage test, had power. Fast forward 6 months, get new motor, still nothing???
Passenger side works, do I assume they are on one fuse???
BTW, IMO electricity is voodoo witchcraft. I understand little and am quite scared of the practice.

Most likely the switch, especially if you didn't use it for 6 months. First see if your getting power to the motor

Are the switches still readily available?
