Hi all I have a 87 TC that will not start it just cranks. I replaced the fuel pump with a Walbro assuming it did not work since I did not hear it. I still do not hear the pump on the prime cycle. There is spark checked that. I hook up a fuel pressure and pressure is at 40 psi when it cranks but nothing when it is at key on run position. Replaced the IRCM thinking it was that but no luck. I also checked fuel cutoff switch but it was not tripped. I also real about the fuel diagnostics on this site but I up to testing if I have power going to the EEC. So now I am assuming I have a electrical problem. That it may be that EEC relay is bad, where is that at?? Please help car started fine before one day went to start it and this happens. Thanks

This sentence is not real clear. Are you saying that you [color:#FF0000]read[/color] THIS ARTICLE? I think that's what you were saying.

Does your CEL come on when you switch the ignition to run? If not, did you double checked voltage across the black & orange wires at the TPS connector with the switch in the Run position?

The EEC relay is part of the IRCM in '87-'88 TC's so I doubt that's the problem since you have already replaced it. I would check/replace the Ignition switch.

No CEL is on when I switch ignition to run. No voltage at the TPS connector when ignition on the run position. Brian I meant reading the article you are referring to. I also grounded the fuel pump from the EEC test connector and still hear no fuel pump running. Sorry about the confusion. Hope this helps I'm so confused.

How the heck do you have 40 psi fuel pressure at the rail when the pump isnt running??? That doesnt make sense.

When you jump the EEC TEST connector to ground to make the fuel pump run, you should also hear a distinct click as the FP relay in the IRCM closes, and another click when you unground it to shut off the pump. Do you hear a click?

Use a test light to check for 12V at the 3 heavy gauge yellow wires going into the IRCM. I am thinking the IRCM isnt getting 12 V directly from the battery due to blown / damaged fues links.

Jeff I asked myself that same question. On the 10th crank I noticed pressure so I released the pressure. Kept cranking to see if I had pressure again but I don't. But when it registered pressure car feels like it wants to turn on maybe it didnt hold the pressure when i released the key. I don't hear any clicks from the IRCM when I ground the EEC connector or unground it. I will test to see if I have 12 volts on the wire going into the IRCM. If the IRCM is not getting any power what else should I check?

IRCM gets 12V on the THREE heavy gauge yellow wires. Be sure you have 12 V on all 3. Use a test light for this, not a DMM. If no voltage on any of them or just on some of them, check the fuse links for the yellow wires. They are near the battery. I am at work and dont have my wiring diagrams to confirm their exact location, and dont remember their exact location off the top of my head.

I had this exact problem not too long ago. Went to start my car and it would just crank. Ran fine the night before. I would check the connection going into the inertia switch in the trunk. Take off the two bolts up under the rear bumper and the switch will be removable. Check and see if there is corrosion or heat damage due to resistance causing a break in the connection. Tripping the switch won't fix it if that is the case. I just bypassed the switch till I find one at the junkyard. Still not sure exactly why mine built up heat and sorta melted. Anyways, if everything else checks out I'd bet your problem is the inertia switch. Good luck

Ok checked pin 24 on the IRCM and there is no voltage, checked it with a test light when the key is on the run position. I also checked to see if there was voltage at the three yellow wires going to the IRCM, no voltage. So now it would be that there is no power going to the IRCM, correct??? Where do I find the fuse links that go to the IRCM??

Check your email. Most of the fuse links are underneath the starter solenoid on the driver's side inner fender
