I'm concerned about cooling and I'd rather not hack up a the nose that's on this bird.

I'd also like to cover the front end w/ something. So, I was thinking older bird w/ grille or even a cougar. I really don't care which one, as long as it fits OK.

Yes you can but the bumper lines wont match up. Using a NA(V8) header panel would look better and be more effective. I did this with my sons car and he has no cooling issues and is running a FMS front mount intercooler. I also modified the grille by removing the inside area of the V8 grille, to give it that mustang open panel look.

Its cheaper and less time consuming than replacing the whole front end and not having a nice fit/look. Your lights on the current nose will work with the acception of the two inner small lights closest to the nose. If you chose to go this route, PM me and I will give you the details.

Love the 'nose job', it looks great!
Last year when looking for an '87/88 for a DD, I saw one for sale on this forum in Chico, CA that had a N/A nose like your son's that I was considering before buying the one I now have.
If I still lived in central CA (Sac - Modesto area) where it is hot as hades, where engine temp. is always a concern, I think I would have gone for it. But up here heat is a non-issue so I will leave well enough alone.
