well im almost finished putting a CB radio in my 88 5spd, and im trying to get the latest technology, you know, to keep the motor trend car of the year up to date and im getting a gps unit in so i always have directions ect. it soon and then it stumbled a pone me that wifi would be the coolest thing in the world to have in a luxury car. Chrysler is offering it in there newer vehicles, so why cant i? and iv been looking on the web but im not sure exactly how to hook up high speed internet in a car (wireless) and be out and about with out using the wifi i have at home, if i could use it i would but i think i would be out of range once i got a few miles away with a simple router, police cars have internet anywhere in the country. so how would i? iv looked it up and found that they go off there routers they have in the cars and it uses the internet from there base. can i do this and have internet anywhere like say, have a lab top or two in my car i could use anywhere? thanks guys

Sounds like you're overthinking it.

If you want wifi on-the-go, just get a wireless modem from the ISP of your choice.

Heck, my cellphone can act as a mobile hotspot Wink

Not so much Sean. Your router at your home probably only covers 150 feet or so of coverage.

Therefore like natmac said if you want internet anywhere then you probably best off buying one of those internet usb drives that many of the ISP's have available. But it will prob cost you 40$ or so a month..

Cradlepoint makes a battery/12v powered WiFi router that takes USB aircards. RV'ers and truckers use this setup with great results.

Millenicom offers contract free aircards that run on Sprint or Verizons network and have a caps much higher than 5GB. I used to have their service and loved it, I don't need at anymore though. Any of their aircards should work with the above router.
