wierd idle

when i goto start my car when its cold (like sitting over night) it will idle at about 1500 rpm steady wich i think is normal seeing how its cold. the strange thing is after a minute or 2 it will drop from 1500 to about 200rpm almost stall then go back up to around 1500. it happens like every 5 seconds then slowly gets better(takes mabey 5 minutes) and holds idle at 1000rpm
anyone have a similar problem or know what is going on??? its not the tps, its as know good one and is set properly. i think it might be the igniton switch because i doubt it has ever been replaced.
also it has terrible heat, it will blow hot for a few seconds then go back to luke warm. i read a post on this and someone mentioned that it could be the air blend doors. where is it and can it be adjusted i think thats the problem as i have test and replace many things including the thermostat 2tiwce and boiled it in water to make sure it opens and close.
thanks for any input

Joe, I would pull the codes as a first step on the idle problem. If you haven't cleaned the IAC, that is always good thing to do also. I'll also send you some info on checking the ECT.

Which heating system do you have, the manual or the EATC? Which system you have could determine what the problem is.

The blend door on the manual system are vacuum controlled. Check your email for diagrams.

Are you saying that you get no codes at all, not even "11s" (eleven)?

I'm not sure what you are saying about the KOEO test. Maybe you aren't waiting long enough, It does some odds and ends flashes before it reports codes.
Might want to look this over: http://www.turbotbird.com/techinfo/Retri..._codes.htm

Brain fart, Pete? Blend dood on the manual system is cable controlled. Blend door on the EATC system is run by an electric motor with position feedback. The flapper doors that select recerc, panel, floor, etc are vac controlled on the manual system.

NSW... Sounds like you didnt wait long enough to get the codes. EEC outputs the codes in 2 formats.... first are the "fast codes", which appear as a very rapid blinking of the light on a $30 reader. The fast codes are read by big $$ readers, like the Ford STAR, SUPER STAR, and NGS readers. After the fast codes, the "slow codes" come out at 1/100 the "speed" of the fast codes. These are the flashes most all of us use. It takes close to a minute for the KOEO and CM codes to be outputted after the test is started.

Thanks for the diagrams pete, very helpfull, as for the codes im positive im giving it enough time to get into the CM and still get nothing, i do get the code 11 when the test is compleat. mabey i'll take it to ford and get them to do a code scan. that'll be the first time ive taken a car to a mechanic(would the star code scanner be less then 115dollars, thats what ford want to pull the codes)
thanks again

there's plenty of parts stores that'll pull the codes for free. check around and save your money.
88tc (sold) but keeping an eye out.
