What you have described is exactly what I have been going through since Tuesday. Monday my car just quit running on the way home (interstate). After I got it home pulled a 14 code and figured the PIP went (use motorcraft wires etc..) Got a different distributor and TFI(of course the parts store gave me a distributor for an earlier TC, screw in rotor instead of push on, but I put it in anyway since I needed a way to get to work) Then found that the teeth on half of my timimng belt were gone.
A buddy of mine and I put it all in and
got the timing set. She ran and great until she started warming up. Then she started stumbling. After a minute or so she smoothed out as if nothing had happened.
Next day, head to work go @2 miles (which is about the time the water temp guage starts to move) to get on the interstate there it is again. Get through it and she ran fine the rest of the way to work. On the way home same thing.
Now I drove the car all week and this tends to happen just about the exact same place to or from work. I too was thinking something was going on when the thermostat was opening. This happens if it's in the drive idling, city street or highway.
By the way the car was not doing this prior to the belt going. I'm thinking the distributor I got has a bad PIP or the TFI was no good. Don't know if using an older version would cause this. The store has another one (the correct one they say)coming Tuesday. I'll let you know if it makes a difference.

I guess that's where I'm at.Checking for a possible ground problem...I did remove the air charge temp sensor..It looked fine...Also, yes I did remove the spout jumper when setting the timing..I think we might be able to put the fork in this one, cause I'm outa things to try...Thanks again.
