When I suggested "base throttle blade" setting...that's engine off and the preset distance the throttle blade is set "FROM THE FACTORY" that is set by the "set screw" that isn't supposed to be touched...might want to ck and see if it's been tampered with...I'll try and take a few minuetes tomorrow and ck a few on my cars and come up with an average between them all. Also, my red 88 developed a serious idle flucutation and I thought the TPS was taking a walk...well I ck the original...was at .98 and set the new one to the same...IT DIDN'T LIKE IT!!! had to reset to .72 and have had no more problems at all. Again...if the base throttle is within spec and everything else being equal...I'd throw a Processor/computor at it if ya have a spare sitting around...and if not might not be a bad idea just to have a spare just in case...like I said ...I'll ck throttle settings here tomorrow and get back...just reread posts and didn't see a HEGO in the list??? if ya got one try that...O2 is closed loop...

Quote: Pete if it was a ground problem.....I think it would show up a all times???????

I'm not saying it is a ground problem. Only that grounds are under rated and they can cause funny things

Hey turbocoupes,
Sry I misunderstood u about the blade... I'll wait to hear back frm u. I do have and changed out both the processor and the 02 sensor. No luck!!! I'll try to set the TPS voltage a little lower and see if that helps.. Thank you very much for your time.
P.S I'm not opposed to taking it to dealer, however I wounder if they have the means of finding a problem on a car this old... Also Pete.. I understand that you were just bringing up the point about the grounds.. That made me look at the elementary schematics to see if I could find a link to my problem.

about the only thing the dealer is capable of doing is setting up a direct line of credit from your pocket to their bank. [Image: smile.gif]

OK! [Image: biggrin.gif] Ck 3 throttle bodies and the little screw is a Wide Open Throttle stop...BUT... the proper procedure for base idle/throttle is as follows...1-disconnect idle air bypass connector,2-place trans in Nuetral or park and run engine at 2500 RPM's for 30 seconds,3-let engine idle if it stalls turn throttle stop screw 1 turn clockwise and repeat steps 2 & 3,4-place trans in DRIVE (AUTOMATIC) or Neutral (5SPD) 5-ck and adjust idle speed to 625 + or - 25 RPM,engine off reconnect idle air bypass repeat steps until idle speed is maintained consistantly. After doing this procedure I would reck the TPS voltage and reset as neccessary...if this doesn't help ???will keep thinkin'! [Image: biggrin.gif]

Garry.... I know the Ford base idle spec, but I have cured a few rough or hunting idle problems on both 2.3T and 5.0 motors by setting the base idle speed to 100 to 150 RPM below the hot idle target speed programmed into the PCM. I am guessing the IAC operates "smoother" when it runs at a lower duty cycle.
