When engine is cold unplug the vacuum line going to the EGR valve and leave in disconnected...just try it for "giggles" and see if it makes a differences...

Ok if we're looking for a "giggle' we have one. I tried it...Same problem...Now my car has had the catalyst modified as per a recall. They added a vacuum delay valve in-line wth the EGR vacuum line. It happens whenever (so it seems) the t-stat opens..It's like clock wrk. Something must be changing at that time???
Thank you

Maybe base throttle blade setting ? Unplugging the IAC...idle drops & smooths out...maybe a vacuum leak somewhere? With idle drop and smoothing sounds to me that you basicly made it go rich...(less air) I would look for a vacuum leak...pinching or plugging lines...

You know I keep thinking it might be a vacuum leak!!! I've alway's had good luck sraying starting fluid all around the hoses, ect, ect, with the motor running. I about used 2 cans and I can't locate a leak... I'm still trying to figure out what changes at about the time the t-stat opens??? I have a OTC scanner and unlike GM, Ford does not trigger the lights on it when there is a transition frm open to closed loop. Thank you very much for ur reply.

Sounds pretty much like the normal idle problems to me. Have you set your base idle? What voltage did you set your TPS to?

One problem that's over looked is the intake manifold gasket(s). The lower one to the head fails and causes a vacuum leak. It's a major pain to get the lower bolts out but might be worth the effort. I have had similar idle problems for a long time and have never found the solution. When I clear the EEC and disconnect the battery for 10-15 minutes the idle is perfect for a while and then acts up again. I think there is a problem with our EEC's that cause this issue.

One book I'm reading mentions that poor grounds can cause/contribute to all kinds of problems including idle problems

Ok I know this is getting old for you .....However, I really appreciate all ur input..! Base idle= 760, TPS did not like anything under .98. Mine is set at 1.00 I've always had the normal idle problems. But this is ab-normal...Keith I followed ur instrutions to a t..and set base idle and Tps.Same problem???? Pete if it was a ground problem.....I think it would show up a all times??????? Still searching for wht changes when it goes frm cold to hot??? Thank you all for taking ur valuable time to try and help me...
