Wheel coating

I have the original wheels on my T-bird and the coating is coming off in certain areas. Has anyone gone through the process of recoating the wheels? How did it turn out, How expensive and anything I should watch out for?

I had my OE '10-holes' powder coated about 10 years /12,000 miles ago..
still looks almost as shiny and nice as it did then.

they clean up easy with the hard glossy surface finish,

there are hundreds of colors (including clear, 'chrome' & other 'metals', and oodles of colors) & finishes (gloss, satin, flat..)

back then it was only $25/wheel including media blasting / cleanup ..
the same company now charges $45 but it's still a good deal IMO;
altho I have heard of shops e.g. NYC area charging $100+/wheel !

it is very durable and can withstand tire changes and general use w/o damage,,,
eventually you will get some minor rock chips etc, it's not bulletproof !

PS any cast aluminum wheel can be polished to a near-mirror finish..
a lot of work but they look amazing when done !

Stopped at a detail shop near me, They don't do the job in house so they would have to unmount the tires and ship the wheels out, anyway their estimate was $800-$1000 for all 4 wheels- I don't want to pay that much and the wheels are not that bad, I was thinking about trying this product and I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with it - https://whitediamondamerica.com

My OEM wheels are chrome plated on the outer surface, I was told this was a factory option. I had occasion to need a replacement wheel, and had a conversation with a manager at a local Discount Tire. He said he could get me a new one—with new chrome—for around $200 as I recall. I went ahead with it; this was in 1995 I think.

The thing that kills you about buying or sending rims away for work is the shipping cost. I’ve seen reasonably priced ones on eBay and so on, but the shipping is half as much as the rims themselves!
