Wheel Backspacing Applications

I know that I need at least 5" backspacing, but what I am curious about is...

I know a wheel of a given width with more backspacing will have less offest and will not "poke out" as far, and conversely a wheel with the same width having less backspacing will have more frontal offset and stick out past the wheel well...

That being said, is it safe to use a wheel with less backspacing than the stock wheel?

It seems that as long as you don't try to mount a wheel with more backspacing, you should be okay, right?

natmac: This is true. I know for a fox stang the rule is for an 8" wheel, 5.5" backspacing is needed. You could use a wheel w/ less bs to effectively push the wheels out, filling the fenders. My 93 Cobra wheels are opposite tho [Image: frown.gif] They have more backspacing than any other fox wheel (due to thicker hubs on the cobra brakes). I had to use a thin spacer on the front of mine to make the wheels clear the strut bodies. No biggie though. Let me know if you need to know anything else man. Later

Here is a question similar to this. when i look at the back of my car the wheels in the rear are in about 4 inches from the quarter flare, would usisng a spacer and putting this out that far cuase any harm? i hate that look, i like them flush with the flare, not in, looks wimpy.

I wouldn't trust a 4" spacer. Hell I wouldn't want a 1" spacer. Mine are thin...just enough for the front wheels to clear the struts. Get wheels with backspacing/offset like you need (break out some measuring equipment to measure this) or use a small spacer. H&R Springs makes some high quality spacers that I'd trust. Just get some high quality longer wheel studs to match. Later
