I feel like I need a mechanic 101 class with silicone and gaskets? I recently did a head gasket on my car and of course the thermostat housing gasket is leaking lol. Im gonna pull it off and load it up with since I have horrible luck with gaskets that involve oil or coolant..

Silicone is a gasket maker and not a very good one. The problem with silicone is that it dries pliable therefore allowing for the bolts to work loose. This is how I would solve the problem you are having. Make sure the housing and head surface are clean and dry. Dont use silicone use yellow weather strip adhesive and glue the gasket to the housing let it dry a couple minutes then bolt it to the head.

Make sure the T-stat housing mating surface is flat. They can and do warp.

Go to autozone or oriely's and ask for the premium gasket. They are thicker and have a ring of sealer on them. They work so good I will never try another type!

Looks like I was wrong..oil coming from the valve cover gasket was leaking on the t stat housing. I bought the ford one so ill be taking it off this weekend trying to fix it.

If you had oil leaking from the T-stat housing, that'd be a serious problem...
