Whats the latest on fuel pumps

Short story - I'm looking for a link or part number for a 255 pump.

Long story -  It looks like the Warbro GSS340 and the 400-672 kit are the ticket based on some older posts and that JD Performance might have had a Turbo Coupe kit at one point but the JDPerformance links are a dead end - actually for sale. I found those items on Amazon but it seems like there is a risk of getting imitation (sub standard) parts and Summit has an updated part number - GSS340BX - and although I recognize the name have not used Summit before so I'm not sure if the same risk exists there. China, China, China Smile

One of the reviews i read indicated that Warbro is - and maybe has always been - TI Automotive. They have a listing for GCA719 - https://aftermarket.tiautomotive.com/dir...lications/ - for a '93 Mustang that looks like it would work. The basic mods post said to look for '87 - '95 Mustang pumps so I picked '93.

This is for an '88 5-speed that I need to drop the tank on anyway - that's a separate story/post - and I intend to do the basic mods this summer; manual boots control, K&N, exhaust, and advance timing after I get a good base tune up and dial the TPS in. Don't plan to do much more but one of the posts here said for the difference in price just go with the 255 over the 190 in case i change my mind ... and that seems like sound advice.

Thanks in advance

Have you checked LMR? I've bought a few things from them over the years & had good luck. If you go with the 340 be sure to upgrade your wiring. These are mustang pumps which will work. IDK about the hanger assembly working in a T-bird tank though.

I used a 255 for a Mustang and had to modify the hose from the pump to the body. Basically I just cut it off and forced it on, the bends weren't quite right but it works. The only thing that didn't work was the screen but I was able to find a replacement screen for a Tbird or you could reuse your old screen.

I ordered one from Stinger with the kit. It fit fine. Make sure you replace the rubber hose on the sending unit.

Thanks for all the good info guys.

I’m going to take it to a local shop to drop the tank and figure out why I can only get 8-10 gallons in the tank - am I not able to pump from the bottom or vent the top - and while it’s out I really wanted a proven solution to hand them as far as a replacement.

I will keep you posted - thanks !!

+1 on getting the pump from Stinger..... He sells REAL Walbro pumps,

There are a bunch of POS made in the third world knockoff Walbro pumps out there that are total junk.

I dropped the car off today to have the tank looked at and 255 pump installed. They seemed concerned about the factory components regulating the additional line pressure and I had not thought about that.

Can someone school me on this? Is it a concern?

Why I'm having the tank looked at (side note):

The previous owner replaced the tank, straps, sending unit, and fuel filter. When I got it I was only able to add 8 gallons to what read as 1/4 tank and the gauge went to 3/4 or so but I was able to slowly add another 2 gallons (fuel backing up the neck); it never read full on the gauge tho. I figured it was a vent hose issue and I would get to it this summer. Later, I noticed that when the gauge reads less than 1/4 the car will stumble but not stall under moderate acceleration after a right hand turn and then be fine. If I put gas in it the stumble would go away but if i let it go it eventually starts doing it on left hand turns and eventually just straight - no turn - acceleration.

My car will do the same stumble with a low tank, same 1/4 or less on turns. Basically the pump has nothing to suck up as the car is pushing the fuel to the sides of the tank. I never get on it hard in turns when I have low fuel. You should have no issues running a 255 and the factory pressure regulator. Most of us do run a Kirban adjustable pressure regulator to add more pressure, but not necessary at stock boost levels. Are you looking to turn the boost up? The fuel level on the gauge can be fixed by adjusting the float level by hand to read more correctly. It sounds like the float is set to high and when the tank is full, the float goes up to the top, but your gauge is reading a 1/4 tank low. Manually bend the sending unit float lower so that when the fuel raises it up, the reading is higher ( more sweep on the potentiometer). hope this helps

Thanks.

I am planning on adding a Gillis manual boost control and setting it to 17-18 … basically following the beginner mods once I get the bugs workout and a good base to work from.

So it sounds like 1/4 tank is 1/4 tank on my car and the issue is not being able to get gas in … so probably a vent/EVAP issue?

I remember having this stumbling issue with my ‘92 Vette and the same on my dads ‘92 Boneville SSEi. Maybe a baffling design issue of the times?

Am I correct that TCs have a 22 gallon tank? From empty or real close I can only get 11-13 in … and that is slow rolling the last 2-3.

Are you always getting gas at the same place?  I had a Mark Vii that would shut off early at certain pumps but could fill it up at others.  If I remember, Sam's was a problem and Chevron worked good.
