Whats the difference that makes 87-88 TC so heavy?

I was just curious about what makes the 87-88 so much heavier then the early ones? The specs I found say its about 400 pounds? They are the same wheel base, same basic size? Is it just all the extra equipment? Intercooler,ABS,Ride Control, ETC? Kinda a pointless question but I was curious about it and figured you guys that know way more about these cars then me would know the answer?

I'd imagine a combo of all of that, the 8.8 rear weighs more than the 7.5, and didn't the '87.'88 have two mufflers as opposed to the earlier cars having one muffler? Stock mufflers are heavy as well. Thicker sway bars, bigger front brakes, bigger rear window,......

I think there about 200 pounds of wiring in the 87-88. Plus lots of sound deadening material. ABS master cyl weighs a ton.

At least they cut back on some of the weight with the turbo!

I actually took the time to pull all the unneeded wiring out of mine, during the ABS & PRC delete. Even the large bundle of related wires that ran into the interior, through the firewall grommet, back to the fold down tray behind the seat. I actually weighed it all afterward. All the wiring combined with the ABS/PRC computers weighed in at 38lbs. Not much of a weight savings, but every little bit counts!

Jeff sent me the complete harness out of his bird. IIRC, it was about a 60 lb box.
