Hey guys, bear with me on this one as I try to explain the prob Im having. Recently when Im in my TC and go to give it gas, the turbo kicks in and at around 5psi or so, there is a clicking noise coming from the engine. Sometimes the boost will go all the way up, but sometimes the clicking gets worse with increased boost. Im not sure if the clicking noise is coming from the turbo or what, its hard to tell. All I know is that the car will make a clicking noise and stutter. Sometimes its so bad that when the turbo kicks in at all, the car will stutter pretty bad. Hope Ive been descriptive enough. Thanks for any opinions.

Not positive, but maybe it could be a bent valve???

It is a rhythmic ticking noise (ie, the ticks are evenly spaced and become more rapid as rpm's increase)? Or is it more of a random ticking noise like "marbles in a soda can"? And does it only happen under boost? Ticking noises can happen for tons of reasons, ranging from relatively benign injector noises to really really bad detonation. Let us know exactly what the clicking sounds like and when it occurs, and we'll try to help you diagnose the problem.

Thx for the reply. It only happens under boost, and usually either gets worse as boost increases or goes away completely. It is not a rhythmic click, but I can always predict when its gonna happen. Its hard to describe the noise, but it really doesnt sound like its an engine noise, more from the from right of the motor. Its also random ticks. Its not detonating, the knock sensor isnt coming on(its come on before, so I know it works). Thx again

take the VAM hose off at the compressor inlet and take the inlet off the compressor. Using something soft, like fingers try to move the shaft back and forth and side to side. Turn the blades a little as your doing this. Is anything rubbing. Almost any perceptible movement means wear in the bearings. If the blades are hitting anything at all, don't drive it. If the blades are not hitting, are any broken off or chipped, causing an imbalance. If the blades break and pass through the engine it's goodby engine.

I had a noise similar to your description but I could not feel it as in "the car having a stutter". The noise I had sounded like it was coming from the right inner fender area. I decided it didn't sound like an engine noise. When I installed a Gillis valve and stopped using the BCS, the noise immediatly stopped and hasn't repeated since. Thats about 2 months ago. So possibly the BCS was making the noise when the turbo generated boost.

Possibly an exaust pressure leak at the manifold to head, manifold to turbo or turbo to downpipe. They can make ticking sounds especially under boost.

Sounds liek what i fised tonight, the car woudl star tincreasin bosot you hear liek a peacie of papaeer flapping int eh wind, and the car woudl sputter, my intercooler hosue are full of oil and saoked so they are fleibel and leakin soem pressure out and when it does this the very thin rubber hosie im use ifs flapping, took soem 5min epoxy and seals it up good, i woudl nto recomend using epoxy to sela it but the reason i do it cuZ the engien has so much oil in the intake form all the engine blow by no reason to buy new hoses and destroy them.

Check all the hoses to the Intercooler and turbo and the throttel body.
Also when you are liek cruisin in 4th or 5th, just floor it, does the tickin there? or does it onlt tick when the car shows boost, if you have the pedal floorewd and the car is not acclerating cuz of the low rpm that is an exhuast leak.
If it makes hte niose whiel boost it in ont he intake part of the engine

Well I just finished replacing the rear rotors and brake pads, which was a pain in the ass by the way. So now Ive got some time to spend finding the noise. Im beginning to think the noise is coming from somewhere else now. I also hear the noise right after I shift, as soon as I release the clutch and also from a stop. So the noise doesnt only happen under boost. The car will only shutter when Im trying to accelerate hard, not under normal driving conditions. The noise will get worse with increased boost though. Im lost. Any ideas? Thx guys
