What to look for?

I'm in the market for an 87 or 88 TC and have found a few to go look at.

Are there any areas to look for certain problems?I don't have a problem with needing to do some work on the car,I just don't want any big surprises.I've been out of the TC market for ~ 13 years after I sold my 86 TC.Lookin' forward to getting another one as I really enjoyed driving that car.

Any keys to look for or other info would bee greatly appreciated.

Look through the FAQs and at least the titles of the Technical Articles linked from the home page. These should give you some ideas of things to look for.

The 87-88 auto trans is junk. Rust usually starts in the bottoms of the doors, look at the inside bottom, not the outside and the tops of the wheel wells and behind the rear tires low in the quarters

Get familiar with all the electronic goodies and how to evaluate them. ABS,PRC, hydraulic clutch linkage. Do a search on these terms and you will find enough posts to get you familiar. There is a link to a list of acronyms at near the top of the FAQ page.

The engines are tough. If well cared for, 100K miles isn't anything to be scared of.
Do the ususal checks like water in the oil and oil in the water. Steering wheel play.
Brake and steering noises??

Yea, DEFINITLEY gonna get a 5 speed.My 86 TC had some electrical issues which were worked thru.Been lurkin' for about a week and gone thru most of the tech pages.Thanks again and wish me luck on the search.
