Guys - I know some of you can commiserate with me.
A guy I work with (who knows I drive a tbird)informed me his nephew has "some older Tbird" that suffered some fire damage under the hood. Probably be getting rid of soon - very cheap.
Me: 6 cyl, V8?
Him: uhh, no, one of those little 4 cyls.
Me: Turbo?
Him: Yep
Me: Std
Him: Uh huh
Me: Really? what year.
Him: ummm 87 I think.
Me: How's the body
Him: Very nice
Me: ?!?!?!
Come to find out he paid $400 for it in rough running condition. Got it running better, put 4 brand new good years on it, and then had the fire.
I checked it out today. The body is so immaculate (black with red pinstripe) I barely bothered to look at it. Headlights are falling apart. Has both fogs. Lenses are intact but some obvious cracks.
Red leather in poor to fair condition. Some interior pieces missing, but fair overall.
The fire was at the fuel rail.
Looks to me like:
Injectors
Injector Harness
Misc hoses
Throttle body - maybe
Throttle cable
CC cable
Ig wires
I know the kid is pretty depressed about the whole deal and would probably let it go for next to nothing.
Bad news is -- Money's tight - uncle sam wants me do dig pretty deep this year, but...
What do you think? Would it be worth the hassle to do the swap if the price is too good to to be true?
Any components in that area that could be damaged/pricey that might not have been immediately appearent?
I didn't even check the mileage - after the thought of having a body that straight started dancing around in my head I turned into a 16 year old. Plus, having 274k on mine -- this one couldn't possibly have THAT much.
