To replace the stock wheel in my 84 and retain the cruise control?
Can I use a mustang wheel? Or perhaps a newer thunderbird wheel?

Are you trying to NOT go with a Turbocoupe wheel, and trying to save some cash on an "aftermarket type" wheel?
Why not just use an 87-88 wheel?

Yea, thats what I was asking.
I want to keep cruise control, and to do that I was figuring I would have to stay with a ford wheel.
So I was wondering if the other ford wheels would be not only compatible with the column, but the cruise wiring as well.

I put an 87-88 steering wheel out of a parts tbird turbo coupe into my 85 tbird 5.0 with no problems. I put the steering wheel and column in, it bolted right up and all the plugs fit. I see no reason why one from an 87-88 would not work in your 84.

Aren't the 85-86 wheels the same as the 87-88?

not sure on older tc wheels but I know the older non tc's have the same internals but are harder and smaller. Smaller meaning the 87-88 wheel is about 1.25" in diameter vs. the 83-86 which is closer to 7/8" or so. Just guessing I don't have the wheels right in front of me. The 87-88 wheel is much nicer IMHO.
