Alright, I was under the impression that all the early 'Birds had 18 gallon fuel tanks and the '87-'88's had 22 gals. I filled up my '86 today ($70 - lord, just take me now!) and the pump registered 19.1 gals. Do I have an 18 or 22 gal tank?

Depends on who you ask. What I mean is, my owner's manual for the '88 says 22 US gallons. However, my Chilton repair manual that covers TBirds and Cougars '83-'97 says that the 2.3 holds 18 gallons, the 3.8 21 gallons, and the 5.0 20 gallons. This is for all model years that had those three engine sizes. I think this info is wrong unless you're talking about imperial gallons. This book, after all, is published in England. So, after all this rambling I still couldn't answer your question. My guess? Probably 22, since you probably had some gas left in the tank before you filled it. Did you fill it to the gascap?

All I can say is that my 86 Tbird 5.0 has a 22.1 gallon tank. Pretty sure that is correct since I once put in 20.5 gallons on a road trip where there was a LONG distance between gas stations.
