What is this switch and hose?...

I am going through my 88 TC doing the turbo swap and while wrestling with every rusted on bolt, I busted a switch that is on the heater core outlet hose. What is this? Have to get a new one, but not sure what it is. Also, the orange colored hoses for the turbo coolant are not looking good and I want to replace them while I have access. Is this a special silicone hose for hi temp areas? Should I replace it with ordinary hose or does someone know of a factory type replacement? Thanks for the assistance.

I assume you have EATC. That thing in the heater hose is a low coolant temp lockout switch that inhibits the blower motor from running with coolant temp under about 100 deg F when the EATC is in heat mode. The switch hasnt been available for many years.

Yes, I have EATC. Bummer it hasn't been available in a while. Just the plastic busted off of the top part, I should be able to still hook the wires up. At least I know what it's for, maybe some other year Fords used the same thing, a lot of vehicles use that type of heat. Thanks for the quick answer. So now, has anyone replace the coolant lines with straight brake lines with a flare adapter in the block instead of a hose?

Could always buy a temp switch that trips around 100 deg from Digi Key, Me Master Carr, etc and adapt it to fit the fitting in the heater line.

I searched and searched for such a switch, using Ford’s part #s from the shop manuals. Using Ford’s part description from the manuals, I searched Google and Google Images. I had several auto parts stores search through their catalogs as well.

Not available. If you could find a salvage TC with its engine still intact (usually one of the first things to get sold), you could scavenge from that.

LIke you, I was upset that it wasn’t available. I want everything to work properly in my TC!

But that’s all that switch does—like Jeff said, it would not allow cold air into the passenger compartment until it was warm, so you didn’t have cold air blowing on your feet and legs. It’s more of a luxury item.

Where I am (Phoenix) it rarely gets below 40 in the winter...even when I travel into the mountains and freezing temps, I just start the car and let it run until the heater warms up.

Problem solved.
