What is a fair price for an 87 TC?

Have a friend who has always said to let him know if I were to sell my 87 turbo coupe... thinking the time may be right to part with it but really not sure what would be a fair price.

Details...

87 Turbo coupe, 5 speed, all options except leather.

Exterior paint, clear coat gone and faded, no rust, new Michelin tires, mechanically runs well, cold AC (r12)

Interior faded but in good shape, dash is cracked.

Has boport stage 3 head with 2.1 cam, ported e6 and gutted intake, stock ihi w/boost controller, 3g alternator

Have many extra parts (complete engine from when the aux shaft went, have matched aux shaft and dizzy for it) also have a NOS set of headlights and many various parts like climate control, EQ, window motors.

Don't want to give it away, but also don't want to charge more than I should.  Can't really figure out what would be a fair price?

$3,000, $4,000 ?  More?

Miles on engine? Low mileage all originals go for 11-14k on BOT. You have lots of expensive extras but it's modded and needs paint. If it runs and drives and literally needs nothing to keep driving it, 3-4k seems low IMHO. That would be the range for a stock, high mileage TC that needed paint. I paid 4900 for a one owner w/113k miles all options and leather (18 months ago). One area of bubbling and paint was good.

The motor has maybe 40,000 miles on it. When I had the aux shaft/distributor gear failure I found a newly rebuilt engine in 2010, blew the HG in 2013 and put the boport head, ported e6 and gutted intake on then. Never did get around to upgrading the turbo to take advantage of those parts. The front end was rebuilt with new lower control arms, ball joints, springs, rack and the car drives very nice. Still has the prc shocks, a little bouncy on auto but fine on firm.

Not really certain on the mileage as I swapped clusters... maybe 200k? Currently shows 49k Wink

I paid $1500 for a running driving 88TC a few months ago and could use paint otherwise its in great shape

also paid less than $1k for my black one but it needed the rear end rebuilt ($700) otherwise it ran great after sitting 10 years lol

$3-4k sounds good for his with the good upgrades already done like the ported head and cam which aren't cheap + the NOS headlights which are nice to have
nice paint would put it into the $5k+ range in my opinion

Show us a pic of your $1500 TC and list the options. What were they asking? That's a good data point for vegas_ss.

yeah he wanted $1500 for it, gladly paid it since I've been looking for this specific color, it's the rare "Mach 1" red color (paint code 21)

115k, keyless entry, electronic A/C, cloth raven interior, dual power seats, Automatic (now a 5 speed), dealer option wing, premium sound package

my other one is black (I paid $1000 + it came with a complete V6 parts car), 188k, factory sunroof, leather raven interior, 5 speed, manual A/C, driver power seat, premium sound package

Yes—like the man said, asking and sold are different.

I have complete and meticulous maintenance records (with a lot of detail) going back to when I bought it (1991). 283K miles, all stock except for sound system, Gillis valve, R-134a conversion; all options except moonroof and leather, new paint and new window tinting. Everything works as it should.

Also a lot of spare parts—some new, most reusable—probably about $2000-4000 worth.

Hagerty will repair or replace the car for up to $7000. If I recall correctly, I was told the actual value is much higher than that.

Do I think it would sell for that? I only know what Hagerty insured it for. Insurance companies are notorious for undervaluing vehicles.
Another proud dues-paying member.

1987 Turbo Coupe w/T5OD, 8.8 axle, grey smoke; most options. Got it in 1991 with 41K miles: 3 turbos, 2 heater cores, 3 T5OD full rebuilds, 6 clutches, 1 head gasket, 2 Teves II ABS units, etc. later....

I'm fighting with the insurance company right now over the value of my car and I had to have an appraisal done. 88 Turbo Coupe, every option but leather, everything works as it should, 147,000 miles, rated 4.4 on a scale of 5 overall...it appraised for $10,800. I have receipts for a bunch of parts I put into it so that helped the appraisal value. I do not think I could sell the car for that.
