Since I've had a bit of motivation lately I thought I'd let you all know what I've been up to.
I haven't been to the track or worked on the Bird since 2007. As things are now it has run 12.4x @ 112 and has run 12.25 @ 115.9 with n2o and an A237 cam.

The combo as it sits today...
88 TC
Subframe connectors, MM lowers, CHE double adj uppers, Bolt in torque box reinforcements, Manual brakes, Weld Draglites, Stock interior

stock block + 0.030 Diamond pistons, Crower rods
stock head with bowl work / 1.89, 1.59 valves
Essy 2277 cam
Square lower intake + 3.5" tube upper & 65mm TB
Large NPR intercooler
40BOB Log manifold
SC60 / 60-1 T3 turbo with internal gate
3" exhaust with cutout open
engine management: MS1 V3, LC-1, Mallory 685
a/f ratio, total timing, boost: 11.6 / 23* / 22#
flywheel: Stock
clutch: Spec stage 3, 6 puck
transmission: T5, Stock
rear/ratio/tire type/tire size: 8.8 / 4.56 / Spool / 28" ET Streets
race weight without driver: 3250 + 170

under the hood
body shot

There's been alot of parts gathered up in the last few years. I'm finally getting around to putting them to use.

Assembled the Liberty Proshifted T5 that's been sitting in pieces on the bench since 2007.
input shaft
main shaft

Picked up a used aluminum flywheel also.

Got a stage 3 cam from Bo at Boport and some solid lifters from ebay. Found a good stock head in the garage and started getting it ready. Will run it with stock valves.
chamber rough-in
exhaust port
intake port

I'll be trying a Holset H1E. It's an 8 blade 58mm? with a T4 split scroll 21mm exhaust housing. I have a feeling I may need a different turbo, but will stick with a T4 split scroll.
pic later!

I'm going to try making a header and have a box of 1-1/2 od mild steel bends and some flanges. Will start on it after the head is ready for the machine shop and the 220V outlet is installed in the garage for the Miller Dynasty 200 tig welder I picked up to help with fabricating stuff.

The plan is to have it on the road before the tracks close. Might even try my hand at paint and a roll cage if I get the urge.

Edited pics and added photobucket link here .

Hey man, looks good. I am verry interested in the manual brake deal as I will probably go that route when I get everything to go 13'' up front. Did you use the MM setup. If not what did you use? Do you have any pics of the engine bay since the manual setup was installed. Anyway your already posting some great #'s. I can't wait to see if you improve on them.

Thanks, I can't wait to see if it improves too.

I don't recall where the adapter for the m/c came from, but it was not a full kit. Still need to move the rod attachment up to gain some leverage. I tried the dodge truck 1-1/8 bore and could hardly get it stopped. It now has a 1980 Mustang manual brake m/c with a 7/8" bore and is much better, but not yet great. Pics are in the photobucket link above.

Also, I put drum brakes on the back to gain some tire clearance. I may do a bracket flip of some sort to get discs on the rear later on.

It sounds like you do a lot of fab work yourself but I wanted to give you a heads up anyway. MM sells a new brake pedal for going to manual brakes. I think it has a new mounting point for the push rod to gain leverage as you mentioned. I remember the price being resonable. Just a thought. Keep us posted.

Thanks for the reminder.

I didn't remember them having the pedal arm as well. Nothing but good stuff from MM. I got a few MM parts on my SVO. Now that I think about it the lca's on the Bird are from them.

Almost have a EEC SD setup finished, along with t3t4 57 trim turbo upgrade and a repaired boblog from 2004. I have 75inj. running e85 or e70 here in michigan.

Looking forward for the first test drive than tuning and track time. I aiming for 12.5@108 or so. The XR7 60' pretty decent for a stock setup. Although I did replace the rear shocks with monroes. There where leaking.

Got started on the header. 1 1/2" mild steel, all tubes 26.5" long.

Mounted on the block

I'll practice welding for a bit before I decide if I'll do it myself.

**** dude, that looks serious! I like it alot!Got lots of questions. Are you going to keep the turbo mounted to the block? Where did you find someone to mandrell bend that size tubeing? What track do you run at?

Thanks.
This turbo will stay mounted on the block. It has 8mm tapped holes in the turbine housing that held the wastegate actuator. If I go to a different turbo then I'll fab up some bracing from the block to the flange to keep the weight off the header tubes. The bends are from Schoenfeld headers and are 16 gauge (0.065") mild steel. I'm teaching myself to tig weld now on all the straight left overs.

I'm in between MIR and Capital and prefer MIR. When I was going it was just to the test & tunes to goof off and get frustrated.

So what's the word, doug?

I always wonder what you're cooking up.

Any chance you'll make a run up to cecil this year, hopefully when we organize with more of the TF boys again?
