Well after looking the situation over this morning, I have decided to try and pull the exhaust manifold and turbo as a unit then separate the things on the bench. Anybody know if the EGR tube will clear the back of the head if I leave it attached to the exhaust manifold (see Parts Wanted)? If I have to cut it and nobody has got one to sell, anybody got any ideas on how to replace the damn thing? I was thinking maybe something along the lines of using the tubing that the use to hook up gas stoves but don't know if the threads are the same.

you know, i think that stove tubing would work just fine, but if the fittings arent correct you would have to saw off the end to replace the fitting. I also think you can get the end s of tubing that size flared at any plumbing shop. Good idea...never thought about using stuff like stove line/natural gas line before,,,.......

Gary and I talked. What I did to gain more wrench room for the lower, back turbo to exh manifold nut was grind the edge off the turbo support bracket up near the nut. (another use for a Dremel)
I don't know if flexible gas supply pipe is going to work in a 1400*F environment.

Gary, I went out to my '87 during lunch and measured the EGR tube. It is 5/8" o.d. which is a standard size (I would have figured on metric). It looks like it will clear, but I wouldn't swear to it. So if you do have to cut it, cut it as close to the middle of a straight run as possible and then you could splice it back together with either a flare union or compression union (the latter would be easier). You'd just have to take out a slice the same size as the "growth" from the particular union you use.

Gary,
You should have no problem getting a spare EGR tube. Are you not able to separate yours at the exhaust manifold end?
I *think* I have a spare at home, and I might score on one this weekend at the junkyard, if I see one.

Thanks to everyone who helped me out on this project. I'm going to go ahead and cut the tube, pull the turbo and exhaust manifold together, and then separate them on the bench. You can bet that while I have that bottom bracket out of the car, I'm grinding off both of those tabs that interfere with getting them nuts off.
Thanks Again,
