After I got home from work today I noticed my car smelled funny like something burning and I noticed smoke coming from under the car. I looked around under the hood and didn't see anything out of the ordinary so I didn't really worry about it.
anyways about a couple hours later I went out and the smell was much stronger and the smoke was much more noticeable.
I noticed there was a bunch of oil all over the tranny bellhousing, the tranny, under the car, and it even left a trail of oil since I had left. the engine dipstick only had a drop of oil on it so im guessing most of it is gone.
This was my DD so its definitely going to take a toll on me since I wont be driving it until its fixed. Im guessing its the rear main seal that is bad, you guys have any suggestions.
Engine has 190k on it, was driven daily and was ran with full synthetic oil.

I would fine out how much oil is left in it. Maybe there is enough that no internal damage was done. You also need to find out exactly what leaked.

The dipstick can foo you. I only check my oil in the morning when its cold. If you check it when the car is hot, it will give you a falls reading of being empty.

Yea I just hope no damage was done, at least it didn't sound any different up until I got home.
And it was certainly engine oil that is on the ground, and all over the tranny. The leak seems to be coming from the rear of the engine somewhere, may it be the valve cover, main seal, or the head gasket, I don't know yet I'm going to have to take a good look under the hood before I go about pulling out the whole engine.

Yea the only reason I thought to check my oil was because of the amount of oil that is on the ground and the fact that it left a trail from when I left til I got back which was about a 10-15 min drive

Check the line going to the oil pressure sending unit, its a bell looking thing at the back drivers side of the valve cover head area, itll have a small wire going to the top of it. Same thing happened to me and luckily it was just that oil line, but because of its location it can fool ya when it leaks. Im hoping thats it for your sake lol!

Il be sure to check that as well
I started to take a look today and every single bolt on the valve cover was loose
I'm starting to think that that was the culprit since it looks like the oil blew out the back of the valve cover, I took off the valve cover to take a look and it has a cork gasket so il be replacing that with one of the better rubber metal gaskets
The oil went all over the tranny bellhousing so I don't think it was the main rear seal after all thank god
