weird idle problem

Kinda have the bird on the back burner for now, but last time i drove it i heard a loud PSSSHHT kind of like the sound of a BOV, which i don't have. It's happened before and turned out to be the tube from the turbo to the intercooler blew off. i went to start the car the other day and it will not idle at all, i pulled up on the intercooler (stock) to see if the tube was loose and it didn't appear to be. i check the voltage on the iac and it read just about 10 volts. i can't figure out what happened and why it won't idle. its an 88 TC 5spd, 3 inch stinger down pipe and exhaust, & k&N filter on vam. I had the car running and idling good with this setup before but it just won't idle now. should i be able to move the rod that connects the wastegate diaphram to the waste gate actuator arm freely? mine won't budge at all. at a lose here, need to get the car running right cause the motor is getting pulled and is gonna be put in a ranger. the car will be sold as a parts car, if anybody is interested in picking it up as a parts car PM me. thanks for the help.

The hoses have been known to split. If a hose is split, or hole, unmetered air is getting in, and it will idle / run like crap, if it runs at all. Sometimes, the split / hole is hard to find unless you look real close, feel each hose, etc.

Check th VAM hose if you played with that at all. I have had it pull off the vam on th ebottom, where it can't be seen and th ecar would start and then stall

ok ill check out the hoses closer. i have some leak detection solution at work that i can use Smile it must be a split hose because of the PSSSHHT noise and now all of a sudden it runs like crap. thanks for the help guys.

ok i took the turbo to intercooler and intercooler to intake tubes off and re-installed them and now she idles and doesn't stall and i went boosting for awhile. it feels like i've lost alot of low end torque though, im running a stinger 3" downpipe and 3" exhaust system with no cat and no muffler, im guessing since i have little or no back pressure it killed my low end...? i have a dynomax ultra flow muffler in the garage, will i get my low end back when i put the muffler back on? i can't decide if i should keep the 2.3T in the bird or put it in a ranger. from a performance stance, the ranger would be slower and heavier i would think. i know rangers just suck at hookin up, and the bird is heavy but the ranger i would put it in would be 4500 lbs, not sure how much a bird weighs but im guessing its not that much. theres a few things that bug me about the bird though, like a good size spot or rust and rot right next to the turbo, but not much other rust. what do you guys think? thanks.

one other thing, the reason i was thinking of turboing a ranger is because nobody expects a ranger to have a turbo in it and blast by them. i like the "sleeper" idea of it all, creeping up on some un-suspecting ricer that thinks he's the sh1t and blow his doors off.

Trust us there is still plenty of backpressure in the turbine housing. Are you sure something else didn't change? Did you change turbos or gut the upper intake?

87-88 TC weigh around 3400+. Earlier TC are lighter.

About a bazillion people have done turbo rangers, You wouldn't be the first.

no, i didn't change any thing else at all. im confused, it still builds 10 psi and quick, but i just don't feel the seat of the pants feel like i used to. i know there alot of turbo rangers, im on rangerpowersports.com regularly. i guess im just not a real big car guy, i like being able to work on vehicles without having to jack it up or drive it up on ramps all the time.
